I have two sets of throwing knives, s&w and Colt. They seem almost like a novelty knife put out by gun makers. Anyone have experience w the s&w 11" throwing knives?

I never had any of them (Colt had at least 4 different models), but the few people I ever encountered at throws that had them said the threw well, but had a a tendency to chip and snap due to the hardness being too high (upper 50s). Both brands were made using stainless steel (mostly 440 and 420 grades). SS knives SEEM to have a greater propensity for chipping and snapping.

Throwing knives need to be more flexible that "user" knives. I've seen it written that 49 to 53 is the hardness range best suited for throwers, but I have no proof of that claim.

I have throwers that I made from A27 mild steel back in 2010 and they are still working just fine. If they develop a bend, I can just stomp on them a bit and straighten them out.
