Hey Guys,

What is the most comfortable handle? The g-10 version or the paracord wrap? How does the paracord resist rough terrain like dragging it over brick, rock, concrete, ect.

Keep It Sharp,

Don't worry so much about comfort. Worry about how well a handle aids grip retention. The wrap does this very well wet or dry and holds up well to all manner of abuse.

As a side note, I don't find the wrapping to be uncomfortable and I've never used the other kind STRIDER makes.

Exactly what Kampfjaeger said (including about the beer nuts). The only difference is that I find the paracord very comfortable in the hand. To me its a natural feeling grip, that seems to work great. I can't vouch for the G-10, I've never held one with that handle type. Good luck, Reagan

Hi there,
I have as EDC's: the Air Wing (hoping to get more...Mick/Duane?); SLCC in Ti and the Model HT, black blade with G-10. I am always impressed with the volume of material that the cord wrap handles offer and I have these on my larger knives. It's pretty comforting to know that the tool is NOT going to twist in your hand uncontrollably and that the mechanical aid that the wrap offers will not fail if the material is wet.
The G-10 on the EB series of knives is a bit oversized to accomodate positive purchase by allowing the meaty part of your hand to sink in and allow better grip. Ultimately, I would have to offer that in this matter there is "an ass for every seat..." thanks Duane, when it comes to personal choice. Possibly, the concern might be better placed with the ability to hang on to the tool via any ergonomic advantage that is offered and what material will best aid you in this matter.
All the Best,
Joe
p.s. FYI I have offered some level of abuse to my paracord wrapped knives...no problems incurred.

Joe,
Sorry Ive missed your calls.
Try the e-mail.
Hope all is well.

The only issues with cord are abrasion and flame.
As far as abrasion, I have crawled the length of an airstrip, (tarmac) and still had a WELL usable handle.
It didn’t look that great though.
Completely wore through the plastic on my knee and elbow pads.

G-10 is far more comfortable than paracord. You may like paracord, it does provide mor esecure grip but G-10 is more comfortable. Paracord is too much IMHO.

I suspect that'd be G-10 again :)

Well, if you are going to use your knife for few minutes, may be you're right ;) But if you are going to cut/chop for few hours continuously most likely your hands will let you know, whether you worry about that or not.
Of course eventually you'll get used to that, but I guess then you have to use paracord handles frequently.

If you could, please post a picture or two of your HT with black blade abd G-10 handle. It sounds awsome. I love my HT, and would be intersted in seeing others. Thanks, Reagan

Chris: I have a BT cord-wrapped. Not only does it look the coolest, but it is DAMN comfortable! Actually feels very secure in the hand. Also, the cord can be unwrapped for other uses in an emergency/survival situation, and you are still left with a perfectly useable handle on the blade! Go cord!

To stay within the title set on this thread...I personally like the cord, but then it's becouse maybe I'm surounded by almost a endless source of 550 cord.
Mick, things are a tad bit hectic around here as you can imagine. Have tried the phone but your grinding or I'm out running about. Shoot me a quick note on kobrabag@email.com to get comms up and running. Hope you like the bag. Take care and stay safe. Dean

As I seem to remember, the military required that the STRIDER knives being evaluated by the SpecOps teams have G10 handles for anti-conductivity issues. (I could be wrong... It has happened many times before. Just ask my wife!) So obviously those handles are perfectly good. Mr. Strider et al would not bother putting a crappy handle on their knives.

The cord wrapped handle is excellent for grip retention in as far as I have used them (underwater, cold, with gloves on, as well as bare-handed wet and cold on land). Granted this is an AD - one of the SMALLEST of sheath knives they offer. I'm haven't really done any chopping with it... Though I could with the help of another piece of wood as a mallet should I so desire. But the wrap is superb at being "grippy" in situations where it really would not do to drop your knife.

Word to the wise... wear or bring some leather gloves with you when you venture out in the field. All handles will be wearing on your dainty pink paws if you use them unprotected. If it is a survival situation and you are without gloves... Well, I would venture to say that you might have more pressing things to consider than how comfortably your hand feels while holding your knife. Having said all that, I will reiterate that I find the wrapped handle to be perfectly comfortable in so far as I have used it.

Good luck on your choice. I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you choose!:)

Joe,

Love my Airwing. I carry it all the time. It disappears under a shirt, great for our hot summers!

Thanks,

Chris

Airwing? Is that what we are calling those? The very thin, light, sharp, nonconductive... knife? cool name! if in fact that is what I think it is. If not damn that is a cool name.
