I am wondering which one of these to attend next year, and how they have changed in recent times.

I had bumped an older thread today which I guess is frowned upon (sorry) but I am still wondering about the differences so which do you prefer and why?

Seems like KC is more of a gun range event with machine guns/military surplus and I have read that there aren't a lot of high end knife makers there.

Blade looks like more of a posh, upscale location there in Atlanta.

Have these shows changed any in the last 5 years?

Can't speak for blade, but I go to KC regularly, but have never been to the Thursday night madness. As I understand it, there used to be more knives at the show itself until the Thursday night madness got so big, I've seen a handful of knives on the show table or dozens.

KC is a big event, but like was said,more of a gun guy flea market. If you like to build your own guns or are searching for parts for old military guns, it's the place to go. A lot of vendors go there, plus hundreds of folks with their machine guns shooting (you can rent one too). Not a knife enthusiasts best trip. Yes the Busse folks are "gun people"- one of the main reasons I think they go.
 
Thursday night, before the actual KC gun shoot/show, the Busse folks set up a "sale" @ their hotel. Consider it a "hotel hog trough"

They usually spread the knives out, give folks an hour to look, then rearrange them and let the carnage begin. Supposedly a big time for all.

I doubt it, have been told by too many Busse crew members that it is.second only to blade as a favorite event. They did not go this spring due to the number of.orders and surrounding stuff from operation two weeks. I think they will be back there once they.figure out how to fit it in.

Yes, 2x per year. One April, one October...weather permitting. I've been in some crap weather too. In 10 years I've only seen one cancelled and that's cause.the bridge was out and you couldn't drive across the creek due to wet conditions/water level
