Juat found our today we are being stationed at Fort Knox, KY and then that got me thinking, Knob Creek is there right? The same Knob Creek that Busse goes to?

I’ve only ever driven through, but I’m sure it’s going to be a huge shot going from 3 years in Puerto Rico to Kentucky. But at least I can have all my guns again!

The Knob Creek shooting range and shows ARE in Ky
Nice! I’m gonna have to go check it out! Haven’t been able to shoot in 3 years (Puerto Rico gun laws are worse than Cali) and want to get back to shooting some competitions and try my luck with some precision rifle stuff since I have an awesome custom bolt gun being built

Hey, you talking like long range bench stuff? I'm curious what you might be building :D ~ I did a home build a few years ago intending it for some LR coyote plinking and all season long woodchuckin. Some 30 years ago I had one built, a 22-250 Ackley Imp on a Win 70 action. I had the guy put a Shilen #9 contour match barrel on it and added all kinds of tricks and trigger work and stuffed it on a McMillan carbon/boron bench stock with pillars. It's a great shooter but I need a Sherpa and a wheelbarrow to haul it around LOL! My latest one I built on a Savage action in 6.5X47 Lapua with a #7 Shilen SS match tube and stuffed it with pillars on a Boyd BR Varminter and all the fixins throughout. She's a 1 holer@100 - most impressive cartridge I've ever played with with no quirks in powder preference I've found.
Anyway, you really got my antennae up with that post :D And glad to hear you're getting to come back to the big island:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:6.5x47.jpg

My buddy who owns a gun smithing company is building me the following:

Cadex Defense light Chassis w/folding stock

Curtis Vector Action: 60 degree throw and able to swap barrel and caliber in about 2 mins. Mine with me 6.5 and 308

Bartlein barrel

Area 419 brake system

Jewel trigger

Still debating which optic I’m getting. Vortex gives a very good mil discount and NF has an ok one. So town between Razor and ATACR for it.

Also a place I found in KY that does cowboy shooting and I always thought that would be fun to do along with my mil style competitions.

I am very excited about getting back though. Been a rough few years here

I like my Vortex scope very much for the money.
For what I am doing it works great.

But it just is not the same as my friends NF at the high magnification settings.

I don't shoot much past 350 yards so it's not a problem.

Adian, I'm glad you survived PR and are coming back to the CONUS!:thumbsup:
Thanks! Been one of the toughest duty stations I’ve ever been at. Between the storm and losing just about everything in our home to just being hot all the time to horrible drivers. Plus I miss food!

But we haven’t been without our blessings. Our daughter was born last week, a healthy 8 lbs 14 oz! Very exciting to have a boy and a girl. Maybe the girl bit is why I’ve bought so many knives and guns over the last 10 months or so

Pretty sure busse stopped going to knob a couple years ago. Hell they didnt set up at blade this year

Busse hasn't been ay the shoot in a couple of years, the waiting list for a table is about two years.

On a positive note, the KC range is only minutes from fort Knox.

If you go to the shoot, let me know, maybe we can meet. I usually travel up from Alabama for most shoots, which happen in April and October

Wow, congratulations!:thumbsup: That is a huge blessing! :)

Sounds like a plan! We should be there some time this summer. Still waiting for some paperwork and discussing things with my wife. Lot to do

Wow, congratulations!:thumbsup: That is a huge blessing! :)

It is indeed. We had given up on another and then she decided to show up. Now if she would just stop messing with my sleep! Had forgotten about that part

Wow good news Brother :)

Welcome back

And Congratulations again on the sweet little girl.

Congratulation's on the baby girl. Babies are awesome.

You can go long range, and you should. Also think of the ammo you can pick up while traveling.

I am a little jealous of your build. Also glad ya'll are back on firmer ground.

Hey man, grats on the new little angel!

On the glass, I'm surprised you wouldn't be a Schmidt&Bender guy ;) I chose a Nikon Monarch 8X32-50 side focus BDC and target turrets - For the ranges I'm in it's perfect and a great piece of glass for the money-

I see Schmidt kinda like I see HK, they make good stuff but they don’t really care about what you think or want in their products. Plus they don’t offer the mil and vet discounts the way Vortex and NF do. Plus they are more expensive without a big enough gain in performance to justify it. Lupy is ok, but I’m not as much of a fan of their offerings

I agree with you on the Lupe~ I think Nikon is just as bright and it had all the things I was looking for - As with all things shooting, you can spend stupid amounts of money and that's fine if the return is there. I love em all!
What 6.5 you going with? With what you stated so far I imagine you picked a real barrel burner LOL! It seems like every 6 months there's a new hotrod wildcat coming out in that cal but what's really awesome about the popularity of the 6.5 in BR comp is all the bullet options out there. everyone and anyone is building specialized 6.5's and that's what really opens things up when there's tons of available options. It makes reloading just as much fun as actually shooting for me.

Agreed. I brainstormed with my buddy for a while, did a lot of research on parts and such. Big thing for me was an easy swap barrel and caliber, hence the Curtis Vector Action. I already have 308 in my stable since I have an SR25 and a REPR, so it was a requirement. Cheaper to shoot and practice with and longer barrel life and easy swap over to the 6.5 to do long range work.

I’ve got good connections within the gun industry so I’m able to get lots of feedback and information from manufacturers down to actual mil snipers and SOF guys. Makes it easier to get your toys built out.

My knife purchases have been severely reduced due to being close to coming back stateside and being able to have my toys again
