Found a knife lying in the street. I picked it up and took it home to compare it with a Gerber that I have had about 17-18 years.

The found knife is marked Coast Stainless China. The Gerber is marked Gerber 300 Portland OR USA.

Am I correct in assuming that the Gerber is the original, and the Coast is an imitation?

I was surprised at the mimicry. Almost exact. I guess I never held up a "knockoff" right next to an "original" like this before.

Anybody else have similar comparison photos of two different knives?

Well, OK. Just when I thought I knew how to operate Flickr.

Yes, the Gerber LST (light, strong, tough) is the original, it's based of a Blackie Collins design, circa 1981 - 82. Gerber was an innovator in using Zytel for handles, and the LST line was the first to use it.

Coast is a large Portland based retailer and importer, dating back to the 1919.
