knock offs?

If you build a better mousetrap, someone will make an inferior knockoff.

Kind of rude to ask here. Check your other thread for info, but this isn't quite proper in this forum.

Since this is Chris Reeve's Forum, are you asking him where you can buy knock offs of his knives?
This must be a poor joke.

the_artist, if you can't afford a Sebenza, don't come to the CRK forum begging for a used one for $100. HA! The cheapest you'll see a used large plain is somewhere around $200 - $250, and that's only if it's basically shot to heck. The Benchmade 750 Pinnacle is probably more your style as it runs about $85 or less in the exchange forum. However, the Pinnacle is NOT a knock-off. The only similarity is the lock type, and Ti. handle slabs. As always, you get what you pay for. Don't expect Sebenza quality or CRK service for $100.

Sorry, Jackyl, but the BM Monolock (Pinnacle) was made to resemble the Sebenza, made to function the same way as a Sebenza and used the most distinctive and Identifying features of the Sebenza (The lock and handle materials). The fact that the blade is ATS34 vs BG42, or has a slightly different shape, is irrelevant.

It was presented as a "low cost" alternative for people who wanted a Sebenza but couldn't, or wouldn't, pay the price for a real one and, at a quick glance, to the unfamiliar or uninformed it is often mistaken for a Sebenza. That makes it a knockoff in my book, regardless of what BM or it's proponents say. If it waddles like a duck, quacks like a duck, etc., etc......

The funny thing is, although I carry both knives in my store, the Sebenza actually outsells the BM by a factor of 10 to 1. I actually use the 750 to sell Sebenzas. It is a perfect example of "real" vs "imitation".

The Columbia River knife is the S2. It has the same lock design and handle material but, in no way, does it resemble a Sebenza. That takes it out of the knockoff category, as far as I'm concerned. IMO it is a better knife than the BM but sales are really poor. Maybe, if it looked like a Sebenza........

...so the EDI Genesis I and II are knock-offs of the AFCK? The Elishewitz Integral Ares is a knock-off of the Sebenza? I do believe that BM intended to make something as popular as the Sebenza, but the Pinnacle looks, and feels different than the Sebenza all together. We all know you won't get the quality or the customer service with Benchmade that you do with CRK, but I don't feel the 750 is a direct knock-off of the Sebenza. If that were the case, you could call Darrel Ralph's Apogee, with non-anodized scales, a Sebenza knock-off as well. Their is an overall similarity, but again, different designs and materials. Maybe BM should have paid CRK royalties, and called it the [Integral lock[/i], but then again, it could be argued that CRK didn't invent this type of lock to begin with.

The Artist Formerly Known As Rancherman?

One CRK, one knockoff, two Spyderco's. All three for $298.00?

What a deal.
