So I have been using my new BK4 a ton lately and am really smitten with it. I reprofiled the edge down to around 30 degrees and it works very well. I like to have a little orange on my woods knives so they are easier to find. I do not really worry about losing a knife but rather just like it to be easy to spot around camp if I leave in in the dirt or stuck in a stump. It just makes it easy to pick up in the corner of your eye with a little orange on there. I also usually leave the coating on under the scales for a little corrosion resistance under there so this time I stripped the whole blade and just primed and painted the tang with some safety orange spray paint. It isn't the most durable but that is not too important. It shouldn't wear off under the scales which is what matters and it does add a bit of visablity. I use the pommel from time to time and the paint is already wearing down a little there which is no big deal. Anyway, here are some pics of my very, very basic mod and my recently broken in BK4.
Oh yeah, one more thing. I read a few threads about orange handles instead of the blue/red/green/pink ones currently available and I just want to beat that drum too. I would buy a few sets of orange scales for these things.
At first I just stripped it and left the coating on the tang. Here it is with the factory edge and black coating.
And here it is after a reprofile and some paint...
I removed all the coating before painting...
