knockoff pedigree ?????

No I dont believe these are a knockoff. I actually own a couple of these. Smoky mountain knife works has these for $29.99 or $24.99 if you order 3 or more. I'm sure someone here will fill you in on who's behind it all with rights and stuff but I know the tang stamp says schrade walden usa. I wish I could tell you the whole story behind it because I'd like to know but there not fakes.-joel

I need to correct what I just said- smkw has schrade waldens "usa made" and Waldens "usa made" and schrade walden stockmans(yellow) "usa made."I have one of the yellow usa made schrade walden stockmans and one of the woodgrain waldens. I dont have one of the ones on e-bay but They do have them in there book. I will note that it says in the caption in the book "licensed exclusively to smkw by schrade knives a division of taylor brands,LLC.- joel

The yellow ones are made ... er... were made... by the former Camillus Cutlery Company, until recently in Camillus, New York. he walnut and bone ones are made by Bear & Son Cutlery of Jacksonville, Alabama. Both were SFO's for Mr. Pipes of SMKW, who leased the trademark license from Taylor. So you choose. A nice knife made by Camillus, or a nice knife made by Bear & Son. Or boycott both because they do business with Pipes who does business with Taylor. But the knife itself, judge by the quality, not the tang stamp.

One thing I've noticed is that the knives made by Bear are characterized by the use of only the backspring pin (except the Barlows), no other handle pins. Anyone found differently?

Bill

Just to be clear. I bought one of these knives before I realized what was going on with smkw being shady and got another for a gift. So that makes codger right I would choose to boycott both. I just didint know any better nor did the person buying for me. which makes smkw even more shady, confusing people like me who just didint know anybetter. And when I said they werent fakes I just meant They really are producing a knife with schrade usa on the tang. sorry for the confsion.

the first of the Schrade Walden SMKW models, was with the Walnut handles, It was advertized that the Walnut was found in the closed Schrade factory inventory. just to make it more appealing to Schrade collectors I'm sure.

Some of the SMKW Taylor-Schrade-Waldens were packaged in original clear tubes from the Schrade warehouse also, just to make it even a tad more confusing.

Not too sleezy though, in relative terms. Until... until you see the 100th Anniversary shields being affixed to Chinese Old Timers and sold in leftover Anniversary tins. Now that's shady.

Thanks for the info,guys!
I figured that Bear was a contractor but I wasn't sure about Camillus.

I consider any knife advertised as a Schrade or Schrade-Walden USA a knockoff,if it wasn't made by Imperial Schrade in Ellenville.
They may be decent knives but they ain't real Schrades.
The motive for such nefarious activity is greed - capitalizing on the innocent buyers desire to obtain a knife that has the known quality and workmanship of the Schrades made in Ellenville.
Sooner or later, someone will be be making exact reproductions of the 1970-2000 models that will be impossible to differentiate from the originals.
See what that does to the market value and appreciation of your collections!
