Anyone out there give me an example of a "self tightening hitch" I ran across it in a Johnny Ringo Book (one of my favorite authors). I thought I was fairly knowledgeable when it came to knots, but apparently knot.

Sorry.

There is a prussic knot which gets tighter the more tension is applied to it . It will loosen up when the pressure is off . It is used to slide a safety line along another line . As if you wanted to slide a rope along another rope securing you tio a safety harness as you climb a tree . If that is what you mean then you can type in Prussic knot on your search engine and you should come up with quite a few neat knots .

There is another hitch which is self tightening to the point of no return .
Its called marriage ! L:O:L

I think that's a clove hitch with a loop thrown in. If the horse pulls on it it tightens, but you can release it quickly by tugging on the bitter end.
