Sorry, couldn't resist.

I doubt it Fetz. I look for fossils all the time, but have never run across any. I find a shed deer antler once in a while but I think there are more of them.

Fetz, Ebay is a great place to look for ivory, I've bought quite a bit on there and my wife has sold over 300 sets of scales there also, her user name is ''mangopaint''. I have some for sale on my we site but it is the higher quality stuff, at - sunfishforge.com
It's much more easy to buy it than to try to find it in the wild ;)

Thanks for posting that Don. Those are very nice sets you have on your site and considering the quality, not a bad price.

thanks don, your lower end stuff is in my price range, i just might save the
effort of looking in the hills and purchase some!!! :)

oh, and by the way do they have to be stabilized or are they good to go?
Some say stabilizing helps and some say it doesn't, I use it both ways and can't really tell a difference. The best advice is don't let it get hot or even warm while working it and always use good fresh belts. Soaking it in mineral oil for a week or so is also a good thing and probably better than stabilizing.

I just happened to have a new business card from Don Fields and old one from Rick Fields Ancient Ivory. I used to see Rick at shows but now see Don. Bought a piece from Rick a few years ago.

Don says the BIG job is getting the big fella to hold still while he pulles the tusks. Roger, did you have a problem with the cave bear? Did you have to slap him around some while pulling his fangs?

Chuck Leake is where I have gotten my ivory from, including the cave bear teeth. John, that ol'cave bear knfe is on its way to New York city right now. I kept holding on to her and finally someone wanted it for Christmas. She's finally gone and I do miss her bad.

Find a dead mammoth and look at the front end. There are usually two there.Other wards go on ebay or any of the above sellers. At the shows there are usually several sellers.

Just wanted to jump in and mention that I will be getting
into the business of offering Ivory Scales through my new Website
"ancientivory.com"...some time after the first of the year, the
site will be up and I will have scales to offer....free priority mail shipping if
you are a member of this forum and mention it to me when you order.

Mike Roesch
