OK, I just have to get this off my chest. And its been said before, so I'll try and conserve bandwith.

[RANT ON]

I just ordered my first custom knife roughly 6 years from my first purchase of a "nice knife" in 1996 (a Spyderco Delica--and not counting previous SAKs or the ubiquitous Buck 110). The in between years are filled with just about every brand of knife out there...all price ranges (from Meyercos to CRK's).

And its all the DAMN fault of the Internet and Discussion Forums (esp. Bladeforums)!!! Really, I was quite blissfully ignorant of knives in general and of custom makers before this!

It's the knowledge. It's insidious and everpresent. I'm convinced now it works on my subconscious, rationalizing the need for the likes of a Mayo TNT (see first custom knife order comment above).

I can't blame the forums. I've had this "problem" ever since I found out what a pocket knife is.

But I used to just order out of the knife rags and pay full retail. At least now I can save some money. I also bought a delica and within two years dropped $380 on a small decorated Sebenza and then didn't like it! This forum has saved me some disappointment too. Great people here.

guncollector, your experience mirrors mine exactly. I'm happier now that I've found this place -- just poorer. To be fair, sites like knifeart, AZKC, bladeart, etc. have played a part too!

Geez, I was just thinking...Just last year alone, with the money that I have spent on SHIPPING knives that I have traded back and forth, I could have bought a couple CRK Sebenzas!.:).

Damn, I'm hooked BAD!.:D.

Isn't there some sort of program at the Betty Ford Clinic that could help us out? I guess it could be worse, when you are hooked on drugs you don't have anything to show for your money after you're done having fun. :D

That's why I always gently remind my wife that my guns and knives retain more value than her shoes or wardrobe! Well, okay, except for maybe the jewelry.
