I know metal kuckles are illegal pretty much everywhere, but what about the hard ABS plasic ones? can I carry those?

Thanks,
Sam

Forget the plastic or Brass knuckles, you will just end up getting charged with using a weapon. Instead, toughen up your knuckles... do knuckle push ups, at first on carpet, then in time on asphalt and or concrete. Get some grippers, not the cheap ones, but the good steel ones from Ironmind, and turn your hands into tough, crushing paws. In time, you will not feel the need for anything else but your bare hands.

Hmm, Does it work as well as knucks? also, what about this?

What do you think about that? it's classified as a keychain.

P.S.
I also saw this thing called the "Top Popper" It's one steel ringthat you slide over you middle finger. Anyone know where I can get somthing like this?

Also, instead of making a new thread I'll ask here. Is this legal in texas?

In regards to your P.S.S.-yes that knife is legal in Texas. Now you have me wanting to get some knucks now. If anyone wants an idea for some NASTY "brass knuckles" take a look at this. Its the 7th and 8th knife down from the top

Its a cheap Chinese knife, but you can cut off the two smaller blades on it and make two knuckles out of it. I used a dremel to cut the blades off and then wrapped the thin palm area with rubber friction tape to fill it out and give a more comfortable grip. It is very illegal to carry in Texas as far as I know, but its good to have laying around the house just in case.

As far as the "paperweight" excuse; Are you using it in full accordance with the manufacturers intended purpose? An example is an Officer searches your home (with a proper search Warrant of course), and locates the Knucks on your desk, weighing down paper. Chances are, the Judge "might" grant you the paperweight excuse, as you were using the item as the maker intended it to be used, in this case for a legal purpose. But if the Officer stops you walking down the street, with the knucks in your back pocket... Good Luck!!! I myself wouldn't buy it as an excuse. Knucks, brass or otherwise carried on your person, would appear (to any reasonable person) to be carried for either an offensive or defensive purpose. I suspect you would have a hard time proving otherwise to a Judge.

I don't know about TX, but here in MA there is a clause in the knuckles law that encompasses pretty much anything that fits over your fingers and could be used in the same way as a brass knuckle. I'd imagine most states have a clause like that. Incidentally that makes the Comtech stinger illegal here because it is used in a like manner to brass knuckles (used to cause damage to someone else while protecting your hand). I wouldn't be caught with brass knuckles, just because there's no way for an LEO to ignore that.

The Top Popper (which is actually Titanium) is a dual use piece- acting as a self-defense device and bottle opener. I'd carry that, but that's because it opens bottles. You can see a write up on the Top Popper at the Shivworks website. There are some being worked on now, but unless you find a used one, there aren't any on the open market. They're a semi-custom piece (water-jet cut Ti and hand finished), so they're only available when the maker can finish them. As I understand it he has about 200 which are cut and need to be finished, but he was having back problems so he hadn't had a chance to finish them. Hope this helps!

In Texas, particularly Houston, it's a good idea to know a good bondsman. As far as probable cause; it's made up after the fact. If you want to carry your stuff, then carry your stuff. Rather be tried by twelve than carried by six, ya' know?
I carry all the time (knives and such), never intend to harm anyone. Twice I've been darn glad that I was carrying. I carry concealed and take care of my business to lower my risk of drawing unwanted attention. Use common sense, be careful, and know a good bailbondsman.
