Just picked up this beautiful Knives of Alaska, Elk Hunter. I went to the store looking to buy either a Spyderco Delica 4 or Endura 4, but then my eyes caught this beautiful little fixed blade. I held it and instantly had to have it. The really long jimping on the back of the blade is the best I have ever felt. The "Suregrip" handle material feels awesome in hand, grippy enough but so much that it will grab your cloths. Both the knife and sheath are 100% made in the USA. The sheath is a really nice traditional leather belt sheath. It is right handed only which is one reason I will be having a custom kydex sheath made for this knife, the other being weather resistance.
Specs:
Metal: D2 Tool Steel
Bevel: 18°-20° Convex
Blade Length: 3.25"
OAL: 8.25"
Weight: 4.5 oz.

Beauty of a knife mate, I don't see much talk of KOA knives here (maybe I'm blind), but I have the KOA Bush Camp and it's one of my favorite knives of all times and my best friend here in the Pacific NW. I keep thinking of getting the Elk Hunter as a 2nd carry for smaller work (not like I need another knife, but then the sickness is why were all here right hahaha). What I really like about the Elk Hunter is that they put the gimping on the spine unlike the Bush Camp where I had to do my own. I also know what you mean about being drawn in by the looks, I went in looking for another fixed blade and didn't see what I wanted but the KOA caught my eyes so I went home and did some research and then knew I had to have one. The D2 is possibly the finest D2 I've ever used (and I use this knife HARD) and I'm now a big KOA fan. The sheaths are as nice a piece of leather as I;ve ever seen but like you, I'm making my own Kydex for it to give it more wilderness versatility and durability in my wet climate.

Cheers

Dave

KOA's are very nice. I bought a Trekker Pronghorn. The cryo treatment they do on the blades is unbelievable. It will hold an edge for a LONG time.

Great buy!!

Looks great and begs to be used, that is a nice leather rig, good quality.
