kobun

Yeah, but so is the price difference. The kobun is a decent little blade; mine were both very sharp from the factory, had decent sheaths, cut well. I think the handle is a little small for serious work, and I don't like tantos as much as I used to, so mine doesn't see much use. Oh yeah, and if you want it for "defensive" purposes, you better be willing to lose a finger on a stab.

Hello Slow1!
This is my opinion -- The CS Kobun is priced just right for my tight wallet. It performed very well and has good edge-retention qualities. Just keep it sharp! Now there's the CS Kobun Carbon V which is awesome! CS blades are available in limited quantities in my country. The guys are right about the CS tanto series. My 13AN tanto compared to the Kobun ; are worlds apart. But the plus factor here is definitely the value for money Kydex sheath on the Kobun!

The blade geometry is pretty good, you can get the blade very sharp! The handle lacks a guard and tends to go 'squishy' as with most of CS blades. The sheath is made of very very thin kydex! My sample held up under normal use, but it doesn't inspire confidence. If only CS made their knives' handles of G10 and used slightly thicker kydex for their sheaths, I'd buy CS again.
For a defensive knife it gets two thumbs down, due to the fact that the handle doesn't help in protecting your fingers during insertion, and no 'busk' for keeping a good hold on the knife when slashing.

In the same price range I think you can get a Spyderco Moran, great blade (SHARP), great handle and a superb concealex sheath. It's a shorter blade and no tanto shape though.
