I was re-reading The "Bushcraft" book since Mors mentions different axe profiles. I've seen axes with various convex faces leading directly to the edge for splitting - they're used for blocking up cedar for shingles here. Maybe I should get some pictures of one of these huge axes.. I've never seen an axe with a concave face all the way to the edge, though. Most axes have a concave face - but in front is a thicker part for the bevel. I can't even see how a total concave face would work in practise, being too prone to sticking and offering little in the way of penetration over regular thin axe heads with a proper bevel in front.
Any ideas? Is the book wrong?
