So let start by saying I love Kershaw and ZT products. I think they are excellent knives for the money and have a style to suit most knife nuts

I was using my Knockout in the garage, dropped it on the concrete floor and this happened. Nice little crack at the thumb studs. Kind of bummed, but the knife is still functional and rock solid in lockup. I guess I won't be afraid of scratching up the coating at this point[emoji12]

I'd send it to Kershaw. That shouldn't happen there, if the blade was right, just from dropping it. Sometimes the blade gets messed up when a thumbstud is press fit. Call them and see what they say. Can't hurt.

Woa, is it all the way through to the other side? That sucks but now she has more character! I'd watch out if you're using it on some heavy duty work. Blade integrity has been slightly compromised.

Yup, complete through and through crack. I'm going to email Kershaw and see what they say

Bummer!! Sorry to see that, but I know that the thumb stud holes are often weak spots.... I'm going to guess Kershaw might replace it if you send it back?

That sucks. I suppose they will fix it.

Very sorry to hear that. I'd honestly call rather than email. The customer service reps are bar none some of the best in the industry. Even if they don't offer to replace it, $10 is the charge to replace a kershaw blade so not a huge deal.

I believe Kershaw will reblade it for a few dollars.

What is a few dollars? Does kershaw (not ZT) do blade replacements? How expensive is a kershaw blade replacement? If it is like ZT it will be more than half the cost of the knife. Not worth it IMO. I can see a tip breaking because of a drop that should not be replaced under warranty but not a huge crack going towards the thumb stud. That should be replaced under warranty.

I am willing to bet a new replacement Kershaw Knockout that they will replace the blade at no cost. I have seen this happen with several different folders, not just Kershaw. We have even spotted it once on a brand new knife out of the box that was not a kershaw. It can happen, but Kershaw I believe will 100% make it right. This is much different than had the blade tip snapped off because it landed tip down. Let us know what happens?

Forgot to add this straight from the Kershaw site:

"Accidentally broke your Kershaw folder's blade? We can replace it for you for just $10."

I agree, it should be replaced under warranty but even if it is not, the $10 is not much to get a new blade.

As has been said, contact Kershaw customer service. They may replace the blade under warranty, or worst case, re-blade it for $10.

Just the right drop angle can result in this. What steel is it?

I believe the OLBLK version uses Sandvik 14C28N. The only other steel I can recall on the Knockouts is Elmax, but those were on the brown-handled versions only.

Keep us posted, man. Kershaw has amazing customer service so you'll be taken care of regardless.

Now I want an OD Knockout!

Kershaw blade replacements are $10 and ZT is $30. I had ZT replace the blade on my 0566 for $30 and they even laser engraved it with the same serial number.
* reason for replacement was I let a local "professional" knife sharpener sharpen my 0566 and this knucklehead really messed up the blade and the tip was completely rounded.
