KODAK rechargeable battery question

I have an older easyshare camera with a dock that recharges the batteries. Well the old batteries died, and I need to replace them. On the kodak website, there are 2 kinds of batteries, one specifically designed for my dock recharger, and one not(i'm guessing). the camera takes regular batteries incase the rechargeable ones die. What I'm gettng to is I think that Kodak's trying to pull one over one me, and I hope that I can just use regular rechargeable batteries and use my dock to recharge them. Anybody run into this problem?
BTW, here is the kodak link:

Believe it or not, there apparently is a difference between a lot of rechargeable batteries, even is they are the same brand and size etc.
I have 2 different rayovac chargers for AA batteries.
The first one is a charger that takes an hour to charge the AA NIMH batteries. I have 8 batteries for that one, and they work fine.
The second one is a newer 15 minute charger that came with AA NIMH batteries as well. I also have 8 batteries for that charger.
Both sets of batteries still work like they were new after they are charged - I've had the first set for almost 2 years, and the second set for over a year.
The thing is, none of them will charge if I don't put them in the correct charger. Fortunately, it's easy to tell them apart - the batteries that charge in 15 minutes say 15 minutes on them, and the chargers don't look alike.
I have no idea why that's the case, but it kind of miffs me, because I can no longer find the rayovac 15 minute AA batteries locally & don't know if another brand of 15 sminute rechargeables (the store I bought it in now carries energizer brand 15 minute rechargeables) and if I want to sincrease my battery stock, I might wind up having to buy yet "another" charger. :ox

Wait a minute -- you don't just want to use ordinary NiMH cells; you want to charge them in the camera.

Look inside the battery compartment of the camera. Is there a wire thingie that will be pushed by the battery pack that came with it and not by ordinary AA batteries, or vice versa? That's the way it's usually set up, so if you put in alkaline batteries the camera won't try to charge them. All you have to do is tape or bend that wire sensor, do whatever it takes so it senses the rechargeable battery pack is there, and then the camera will charge whatever batteries you put in there, and since you'll only put in NiMH rechargeable batteries you'll be fine.

Just don't disable the sensor, then put in alkaline batteries, then plug the camera into the dock without removing those alkaline batteries first. As long as you don't do that you'll be fine.

Jerrinfla, the 15-minute charging cells have circuitry built into them that cooperates with the circuitry in the charger to make it safe to charge them that fast. In general that's different for different brands, but I'm not sure if that's true of the two brands you mentioned. You can certainly get the Rayovac cells online....

The Batteries Included forum at www.candlepowerforums.com is a great resource. Some of the guys there know a lot more than I do.

If you are going to be using the dock charger you should not use regular rechargeables. The Kodak rechargeables are designed to work with the dock to charge faster. You will ruin the dock and/camera by trying to recharge NiMH batteries. Take my word for it. It happened to me. I fried out the camera.

Well, you could use other batteries and charge them separately.... I suppose it's probably worth paying a premium for the convenience of not having to take them out of the camera, though.

That's exactly the information (unfortunately) I was looking for.
