Just received the Arius yesterday. The detent on this knife is so absurdly strong that I almost broke my finger trying to flip it open. I figured it needed some breaking in and tried opening and closing it a couple hundred times, but there was no improvement in the action. At some point the centering worsened and you could hear the blade screeching against the handle.

Knifecenter sent me return postage. Should I just return it or ask for a replacement? Def not what I expected for a brand new $500 custom.

Rarely hear anything negative about the Arius. I would ask for a replacement. Assuming your happy with the knife in general.

It's a great knife, but popping all the blood vessels in my pointer finger kind of left a bad taste in my mouth....

I’ve handled upward of a dozen, and one of the specifics that I noted was lockbar tension feeling identical and light on every copy. It sounds like you caught a rare lemon. Bill Koenig is borderline obsessive about consistency, so it’s unlikely to happen twice.

Your detent ball needs lubrication. That will fix the scraping sound, and make opening it, easier.
