Koenig Spa Treatment - Any Feedback?

I see that Koenig offers a spa treatment, but I can't find any stories of anyone actually using it. I'm wondering if some of that has to do with the fact that 99% of all Koenig's I see go for sale were never used....

Anyone out there that has used and abused their knife and sent it off to Koenig have any stories? Was it a good experience? Were they able to get marks out of scales/clips and get it back to you without an absurd delay? Was there a charge to refinish the knife? I've been spoiled by CRK, so when I send one off those to the mothership, I know what to expect. Koenig obviously isn't quite as large, but I'd still like to know what other's have experienced.

I would also like to know about this. I just picked up a Gen 3 on the secondary market for a really good price and its in good shape. That said...there are two or three spots that have scratches. One on the handles/scales, one on the blade, and one on the clip. Very faint. But I would love to know if their spa treatment would work those out or not. I am considering throwing some DLC on this bad boy but would want those spots fixed first. Let me know if you ever got any answers on this question!

people actually need to carry and use them to make use of the service...

😁

Sorry too easy.
You arent wrong lol. I plan to use this Gen 3 I picked up. Decent/good price for only having smaller wear marks. That said though, if I for whatever reason I went crazy and spent $1k+ on a knife I would find it hard to make it a user. You're right though.

Not to derail the thread but I’d love to hear about real life use. I see so many come up for sale and always in new condition. I use a Shiro Hati Gen. 3 very hard and paid $1100 for it so I’m ok using an expensive knife. It is hard a first haha. Drop in the garage floor helped me break the seal and feel great using it

Koenig has never tickled my fancy in the looks department but it is growing on me

I spoke with customer service yesterday. Spa service isn't being offered right now. Stated they were too busy fulfilling orders for the mini they rolled out recently. Told me to check back in later in the Fall. Just FYI/passing the info.

I am newish (last year or so) to picking up higher-end knives (by that I mean I have always owned Benchmade users like Griptilian and Contego and just worked them through the army and years after) so I don't want to talk too much sh*t as a newbie, but I agree that you don't see many getting work horse used. But again, I can also see why spending that amount of money on a knife might give some pause to using it. I am the same way until one day I put a ding on it and suddenly I'm a little less worried about it and almost relieved that I can use and enjoy it rather than trying to protect it all the time. I have seen a few threads either on FB, Reddit, or here where guys show their user Koenigs but you are right...most of those I see were collector pieces.
Its going to be hard for me to justify dropping over $500 on a knife but that's just me unless I am selling other knives to pay for it. Plus I already know my wife would be in my ear about it lol. But I found this one for a good deal and now that I have it I guess I want to get it back to standard and make it my own from there.

I have only had it for a couple of days now but I have been carrying it and it's light, sturdy, and the action is incredibly smooth. Can't say I have needed to do any heavy work with it in those two days but plan to use it as an EDC to see how it does.

I really really liked my Koenig Arius. I used it a lot. It's a joy to deploy, but I will admit, it's not the greatest slicer, although it's certainly not the worst. The stock is a bit thick if you like your overpriced knives to be used to open amazon boxes. When I didn't hear a response to this thread, I made up my mind to just let it go. I'm a CRK collector, and I'd personally just rather deal with a company that can fix up my knives if I so choose. I'm a fan of snails, but if I decide I want them gone, CRK has my back.

Thank you Leonidas for calling them! You confirmed that I made the right decision.

I will say that the Koenig is super super easy to maintain. You can have it broken down, cleaned, and back together in about 5 minutes. Of all the non-CRK knives I tried this year, it was far and away my favorite.

Agreed with ergos, probably the best in the knife world just from what I’ve handled.

Sad to hear they aren’t offering spa services.

And a little off topic…. Sounds like someone needs to start a thread with a poll asking Koenig owners if the actually use their knives. I’m guessing 70% don’t use them at all. Just a guess though.

Not here to be a hater, rather just trying to understand.

I like the looks of the arius but when I finally got my hands on one at the bladeshow I wasn’t impressed considering the price. I wasn’t going to purchase regardless but just wanted to check them considering the hype.

So my question is what justifies the price for a midtech/production titanium frame lock to be in that 1k range (koenig, shiro etc). I don’t really see any difference between the arius and say a Hinderer, crk, George, strider etc. I didn’t notice anything that really stood out on the arius that wasn’t comparable to the brands listed above.

From my understanding, when they first came out they were selling for 5-600. So was that increase just from the hype?

I have the same question for Shiro’s which I don’t personally find appealing. Again, when at the show I got to handle one and didn’t see what justified almost doubling the cost of similar knives from highly reputable makers. At least maybe being out of Russia and having to get to the states justifies that addtl cost?

Also, the fact that they can’t do spa treatments cause they’re more concerned about pumping out new knives to make that money and not cater to existing customers would be highly disappointing if I spent that kind of money. Hopefully they don’t treat warranty issues in the same manner.

Personally, if I was ever going to get into the 1k+ range of knives I would want/expect a full custom knife that’s truly one of a kind that only I own.

Just my opinion but would love to hear from others on the opposite side of the fence. Maybe I’m missing something.

The koenig is not 1k. The one you handled at bladeshow was a special model. The regular arius is about $750. You can say that's still too expensive, and that's fine. I loved it for all of the reasons stated. CRK is my favorite brand, and they have knives that you can buy at dealers right now for about $1k because they're damascus (not even UGs). Does the damascus make it a full custom? Does the damascus make it better than magnacut? The koenig is a well designed and interesting knife, and if more people would use theirs, they would find it's a great edc.

Just to clarify, I have no doubt the arius is an excellent knife. If the starting price is $750 then I stand corrected. If you find that it’s worth the asking price then that’s great, no judgement here.

I was just asking if I was missing something because I don’t see how it’s worth/cost more than the other mid tech/production companies. It could just simply be supply/demand. If it was $500, no doubt I would’ve bought one and loved it because it certainly appeals to me.

As far as custom, its one of a kind. I wouldn’t call any of the mentioned brands custom or at least make many custom models. Personally I don’t consider hand ground custom, but I may pay a little more for the additional skills and personal touch required.

I can't speak to the price increase, and I can't say this is the case, but I can't imagine being a smaller maker of knives selling your product to see it immediately flipped for 2x more. In my mind, that would signal that there is room for profit at the original source. Not saying that's what happened here, but some of these hot knives are little too hot on the secondary. The Rosie is another example. Cool knife, but $750 is steep for those too, let alone that people will pay $1000 or more on the secondary. I bought my Arius for $675 on the secondary, and can say that that price felt right for what I got. That said, I still prefer a small sebenza as my edc. But in relation, the Arius I owned cost me only $100 more than my small sebenza....

No doubt the secondary market has set the price considering it’s the most available way to buy one. Certainly can’t blame them for increasing the price. It’s like leaving money on the table and would be hard for anyone to pass up.

I own a Koenig Arius and love it. Got it used for $650. It has been in the pocket many days, and is currently my backup folder in my EDC bag. I have used it and enjoyed using it. (I have a desk job, so use for me is packages and food prep.) I'd like to send it for a spa at some point, because while I don't mind snail trails, I prefer they be mine than someone else's. That's why any of my used CRKs went in, so I could put my mark on them only. Now, if they could just make a Koenig Arius in a lefty model, my CRKs wouldn't have such a chokehold on my pocket time...
