Has anyone been watching the travel channel. They have a great show about two bloks living with the Kombai tribe. One thing i noticed about them is that most of the time food and finding food it 80% of the work. They go hungry very offten and thats from the people that lived there all there lifes. One the things they always complain is that the white guys dont work hard enough and thats the women that complain lol. Over all i think its a great show.

Yep, I caught like 4 episodes of it. Good stuff, makes me wonder what I'd bring along if I had to live with a tribe for a few months!

They really seemed to like the metal tools, made the work go much faster

They did like the metal tool but if you noticed the older guys didnt want to use them as much. They wanted to keep the old ways. Have anyone noticed what they used for the rope to start the fire??? i went to get a cup of tea and missed that part. If i had to bring anything with me it would be an axe a machete and a large SS pot to cook in. If i had to bring only one thing it would have been the pot. It looks like thats the only thing there were realy missing. I like the old man he is as cunning as they come. I bet there is more to him then he says. It seems like the most respected warriors in the tribs were always the old man not the young ones as you might think.

I didn't catch what they used for the fire thong, but someone over on the bushcraftuk forums mentioned rattan

The tree top shelters they construct are amazing. I wonder how they came to build them. I mean it is one thing to get off the ground, quite another to build 100 feet in the air.

They said it keeps them above the mosquitos and flies IIRC

Burncycle, that makes sense. I must have missed the episode where they explained it. Thanks.
