I guess this is the first one of these I have seen, but admittedly don't handle a lot of the nicer Buck knives. Could someone educate me a little on what this is?

Many thanks

ok here you go from the buck site:
Koji Hara
Koji Hara is arguably Japan's finest custom knife maker. Koji works in Seki City, the Japanese capital of sword and knife making, where knife makers are renowned for the painstaking craftsmanship. Many of Koji's knives exhibit intricately hand-milled stone-step bolsters reminiscent of ancient bas-relief sculptures. Koji creates this unique pattern by hand manipulating a milling machine. With the help of computer-guided machinery, we carefully match the delicate movements Koji makes by hand, faithfully recreating his excellent craftsmanship and distinctive design in our Buck/Koji series. See www.knifehousehara.com.

and at the buck site :http://www.buckknives.com/catalog/236
you can find your knife and see the msrp retail price...

Its a Buck collaboration with Koji Hara.
I believe he designed it and Buck makes them, they have a few models available. Buck Knives has collaborations with a few different knife makers/designers also. Beautiful knife.
