JP has posted a few of THESE , they sure are odd methinks. Those disc pommels seem like they would bite you, I know that I haven't found the koras I have handled to feel "ergonomic".
I found a nice "user" kora at the gun show about a year ago. It was about 2' long, 1/2" thick and had a single fuller that split into two near the distal end. The hilt was made of brass, and as for age I'm guessing it was maybe 30 or forty years old. I think the guy wanted $175 for it; I probably would have bought it but the hilt was so small my hand barely squeezed between the guard and pommel discs. No biggy if it was going on the wall, but I wanted to hack up some schtuff with it
Bruise,
this kukri was either re-gripped or slipped into a kothimora scabbard since the discs prevent the "eye pluckers" from fitting. You can see the mounting points for the kalti and "assasin daggers" still on the scabbard. All that's gone. The chape is too long and overlaps the locket. A well made kothimora would be fitted a bit better.
This looks like the same kukri that's been for sale from a dealer for quite a while and sold for around $475. It will be interesting to see what his reserve is and how much someone who hasn't read about the anomolies will pay?
John, thanks for the great info on this. I never would have known all the details that you mentioned, and actually thought about bidding on this knife. (I saw the long chape, but figured that was by design.) In your opinion, with these anomalies, what would be a fair price for this guy, or would you bid on it at all?
