Korean War Vets - A thank you.

In the news were reports of various ceremonies saluting the sacrifices of men and women who served in the armed forces of the Western Countries on South Korea's side against North Korea, USSR and China. I believe that they mentioned that the Korean War ended about this time of the year. Uncle Bill, being a Korean Vet., can you confirm this?

Thank you for your contributions.

“He who knows not, and cares not that he knows not, is a fool - shun him.
He who knows not, and knows that he knows not, is a child - teach him.
He who knows, and knows not that he knows, is asleep - wake him.
He who knows, and knows that he knows, is wise - follow him.”

Harry, it has been so long I can't remember and I am too lazy to look it up. I had done my time and was back home in college again when it did end but this time of year sounds about right. I was sure as hell happy about it. I remember than much.

To those who gave of themselves in any fighting to achieve the peace so many, including me, take for granted.

May you be richly blessed and recompensed.

God Bless... We all sleep safe at night due to the sacrifices of the men and women who answered the call of duty. My heartfelt thanks to you all.

Frankly Bill,I was a bit busy to pick up the history when I was in combat. We had WW11 and Korea guys, and a few in between.SS,OSS,OAS,and others.I am glad that their experiance was available.I know that it helped me to kill my enemy and stay alive myself.Notice which I put first.
It was only later that I studied in depth.Nice to know, but a bit late.
In combat, you are the first to do this particular thing.

Ok Bill, that does not address your point.I`m more in the present.I don`t know how I feel about that.
The nation owes a debt.
All who went into harm`s way, knew what to expect.
A few die with valor;most die in the course of events.
So, how should peer look at it?

They come up with new medals and Qual. badges. All it takes is a stamp to apply to the govt.for a record change.I have not bothered.

It is kind of fun.Oh gee,I`m authorised to wear this now!As if I have the room on a blouse,or cared.

I like the stuff that I have, but see no need for more.I don`t wear all of it now.

I remember being a slick sleeve PVT.How I wanted a CIB,a combat patch or Wings.
Things sure do change.

Well, old men never did anything of import.

Pakcik Bill ...
But come with old Khayyam, and leave the Lot
Of Kaikobad and Kaikhosru forgot!
Let Rustum lay about him as he will,
Or Hatim Tai cry Supper ... heed them not.

With me along some Strip of Herbage strown
That just divides the desert from the sown,
Where name of Slave and Sultan scarce is known,
And pity Sultan Mahmud on his Throne.

Here with a Loaf of Bread beneath the Bough,
A Flask of Wine, a Book of Verse ... and Thou
Beside me singing in the Wilderness ...
And Wilderness is Paradise enow.

... and I with all my Khukuris say ... NEPAL HOOOOOOOooooooo.......!

Thanks, FNG and Mohd.

Love Omar, Mohd, and when I was young had over 100 quatrains memorized.
