I'm posting this photo of the Korth knife that won Best Engraving at the Chicago Knife Show 2008, in order to get Rudy Lala the recognition that he deserves for such an achievement.

I find this even more satisfying considering one of the table holders was doing engraving onsite, and doing an extremely good job of it as well. The one thing set this beauty by Rudy Lala aside is this is done in 3D, not 2D.

Korth Reptilian Prototype. A beautiful knife in it's own right, smooth as glass flipper with IKBS and an ergo handle that makes it feel right in place when in hand.

4-1/2" x .156" Hand Satin Finished Blade.
5-1/2" Closed.
9-7/8" OAL.
7/6 oz.

Thanks for looking!

Extremely bold and beautiful - both the dramatic folder design and the 3D
carving/engraving as well as the flowing fusion between the two.

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Not my cup of T, but it shows great craftmanship! Isn't this carving instead of engraving?

Nice folder design!

Kind regards,

Jos

I was also thinking it was more carving/sculpting than engraving but either way it is stunning craftsmanship. I love dragons, lizards etc. and the patina on the scales is well done as too.

Thanks for posting it.

First off Duane, let me say how much I admire your photography. It is always dramatic and clear, with emotion in spades. Exhibit A.

As carved Ti Tacticals go, this one sets the bar up real high. I am not surprised at the award. Engraving? Well, maybe not 100%, but I am glad the judges used latitude in their decision making, because this has skills that ANY engraver would appreciate, and every admirer can understand.

Three cheers!

Coop

Not into this style and wouldn't call it engraving, but it's outstanding craftsmanship for sure.
Congratulations on the award.

Very impressive work - thanks for giving us such a good look at it.

I don't know why anyone wouldn't like this knife for its 'style'

it looks pretty unique to my eyes. Strange combination of influences, none of which are even individually uncool.

I'd go so far as to say that this is up there in my top 10 favorite folders I've even seen. The clip is awesome!

Thanks everyone for your comments, especially Coop!
Yes, it's more sculpting than engraving, but it seemed to be the best fit at the show.
Can't wait to see what Rudy comes up with next!

Wonderful knife, great engraving/sculpting ... and the photo ain't bad at all, itself:)!

Thanks for sharing Duane,

Guido

what are the two screws in the lock bar for?

Those are part of a new locking system developed by Ricardo Lala that is supposed to be just as innovative as the IKBS system. I don´t have the details (maybe Duane can provide it) but I was told by Ricardo it´s a pretty cool system that works much better than the traditional lock.

I'll let Duane spill the beans. I know the secret to it's success.... :p Yes, innovative and kewl....

...and how is that pocket clip held on? Bolted from the inside?

This is going to sound stupid, ('it's usually bad enough, but this time he's announcing it first') but I really like how, when the knife is closed, the pivot bolt, lock bar cutout and blade stop look like a little face, and the flipper wing looks like it's ear.
huhhuh.:o

The device at the lockbar is largely an overtravel stop, to avoid unspringing the lock acidentally. The cool thing is, it also houses the detent, making it easier to replace that if necessary without risking damage to the lockbar itself.

Clip is screwed in from the inside of the knife.

If you look at it long enough it's really Snuffleupagus!
