Just returned home from my annual deer hunting trip up north. I was sick for most of the week and the weather was very warm but other than that it was still a good week as usual. Our camp managed to drop one deer and miss a very large buck. Once on the ground, I took the opourtunity to test out some Koster steel. I used my Koster Bushcrafter to dress the deer. Worked great, no issues, very sharp (almost too sharp when working blind inside the cavity), great grip with the micarta and it cleaned up nice afterwords. The edge feels very sharp after the chore and you would hardly know it had been used. A couple of days later, it was time to skin the deer before heading to the butcher. I decided to try out the Mini-Nessmuk with cocobolo handle. It was nice and small and fit my hand great. It didn't get in the way at all. The tough, cold hide took some of the bite off the blade and if I had another one to skin, I would have probably touched it up. It is to be expected that this chore will dull any knife. By the look of the Bushmaster blades just being finished up, I will likely use it for both dressing and skinning next year if we are lucky enough to drop something. Just thought I would share my experiences.
