I received my W&SS Necker from Dan a week ago and have been playing around with it ever since. It has dropped into my pocket and replaced my SAK as EDC.

Here it is just as received:

You can see that it will shave and carve fuzzies with the best of 'em.

I wrapped the handle with orange paracord, the sheath with black paracord, and then covered the sheath cordage with a ranger band.

With a Victorinox Spartan for size comparsion.

This knife really disappears into a pocket and it cuts like a dream. I've used it for all sorts of daily tasks from trimming my nails to opening letters and packages to cutting down charcoal bags to use as firestarter down the road. I've shaved fuzz sticks from a seasoned piece of birch and plenty of fatwood while sitting in the driveway or on the front porch with the kids. I've even used it for food prep. The 1/8" thick stock is a real treat.

The knife has been nicely rounded to prevent hot spots even in the skeletonized version and I found it a real pleasure to use while working wood where I'm using a bit firmer grip than I need in the kitchen or during most cutting chores. The cordage provides an improved grip and, of course, gives it a stylish flair. :D

For more information on the knife and it's origins look HERE.

For the way I carry and use a knife, this really fits into my lifestyle. I've got one with the green canvas micarta handle that I'm setting up with a neck-based kit and Dan's working on one for my son to prevent him from stealing this one down the road. :D

Thanks for reading,

Great knife. I like the setup you have. You could slide a piece of fatwood into the band also and voila! good to go.

Absolutely. I had shoved a firesteel in there but the handle made it a bit too bulky to still drop into my pocket so easily.

I've got one of the smaller rods coming from Going Gear that should slip under there easily while not adding noticeable bulk. I think it's the 1/4" diameter X 2.5" Fox. Should be just the thing. :D

right on Brian... i like those knives a lot.. i'm bummed i didn't pick one up when i had a chance...:o

Another week with the Koster W&SS knife under my belt and I'm still as impressed with it as I was initially.

Day to day tasks seem ideally suited to this knife as it's enough to handle everything and not too much for most jobs. The 1/8" thick stock really helps to keep this knife a fantastic slicer while also being thicker and more sturdy than the SAK blade or most other folder blades.

The two-tone finish is really growing on me and I'm not seeing any signs of patina on the bevels.

Maintenance-wise, I've done nothing with this knife but strop it every day and wipe it off when I'm done using it before slipping it back into the sheath.

The paracord is already looking a little rough but that's an easy fix and has nothing to do with the knife and/or sheath as received.

I really find this one a great EDC and a really good neck knife. I slip it in the side pocket on my cargo shorts. Well thought out design.

I just put a tek-lok on the sheath and carried it horizontally on my belt for a few hikes. I really like to carry it that way, though I prefer good old in the pocket best.
