Let me preface by acknowleding that I've researched the threads and got some information but most of it seems to be older, and the pictures are mostly gone. I'm thinking of building or have built a fancy wooden and glass box to display a Khuk in my office and thought maybe a kothimoda because they seem to be the fancy "display" type (right now I'm thinking of my YCS, or a display of my antler handled KK, JKM, Sarge and Trisul.

What are kothimodas? Are the fancy scabbards the sign of a koth? What sizes are they usually? What style is the blade like? Etc. Etc.

I gots one of thems...

I got it as a blem without the fancy scabbard. I think it's 17" in length.

Uncle Bill called it a Kothimoda blade. Three fullers with a fairly narrow blade and not too thick at the spine.

The HI Flagship Khukuri.

Partly, the whole rig is considered the HI Kothimora/kothimoda. Kothimora seems to be the most accepted form of spelling.;)

One size only. The best I can recall is that they are about 18 inches. If you absolutely must know I can dig mine outta the back of my safe.:foot:

Per the pic attached. This is the full HI Kothimora Rig!!!! And well worth the full price!!!! I forget how much pure silver is on the scabbard but it is a lot!!!!
And of course the blade is double fullered, made by the old master Bura with his very own well cured bone handle. A fully functional khukuri as I tested mine when I got it like I do all my khukuris.:D

I found the pic on the HI Website.;)

Edit:
I forgot, The Khukuri is also silver mounted. Did I say it was a beautiful rig? I meant too!!!!:D

Bruise, yours is a Tin Chiarra?!?!?!?!? I never heard of a Tin Chiarra Kothimora, only the Dui Chiarra!!!!

You're probably right. I haven't looked at mine in awhile. Looking at the pic, I think it does have two fullers.

Time to check the bucket. :)

WoW Holy Schnikes. Thats an awesome looking rig. The scabbard is a thing of beauty.

Finally, a question I can answer : ) Kothimoras are decorated presentation khukuri as far as I can determine. Not having a decorated sheath doesn't seem to disqualify them, probably due to the stylings of the unusually thick blade. Mine has a slender Ang Khola shape blade, complete with 'valley' up on the back, but it also has a subtle central fuller starting at the midpoint and curling around the 'valley' near the tip. The 17 1/2'' blade is easily 7/16'' or 11mm thick up near the habaki. Not only is Bura's handiwork breathtakingly elegant, fitted out in German silver and bone, but it never feels heavy.

As a display piece, I think the Kothimoda and decorated sheath would go with a greater range of decor than many of the other decorated Khukuri HI makes, especially when framed.

Bruise, I think I remember this one, as I have only seen one without the standard silver scabbard. The regular bone handled dui chirra knife, with a very nice red leather scabbard at just a hundred bucks. Great snag!

I've had a few - got them in 12", 15" and 18" sizes. The 18" is the proper size, though.

The engraved scabbard and silver fittings upgrade the Dui Churra to Kothimora status. I bet if you asked Yangdu, she could have the kamis make you one. I'd request a nicely polished antler handle instead of bone, though. IIRC, the sarki doesn't like using velvet (that's why only Karka's stuff comes with the velvet in it). But I was once told that Karka was willing to make a Kothimora if he had proper notification. I tried once, but he was unavailable at the time. He'd be my first choice. Next choice would be Bura.

Mine came with a black scabbard. I think two came in the same week, both blems with cracked bone handles. It has a nice weight and balance at least it did the last time I looked in the bucket. Last time I checked, it had an extra fuller, too. ;)
