Hello all,
I recently purchased a 15" AK and and M43. I REALLY like the M43. It was amazingly sharp and well made. I am hooked on these blades.

I am looking at the Kothimoda on the HI site and am interested in getting one of those high end and fancy beauties, but before I spend that kind of money I wanted to see what you all think of the model and quality of this piece. Is it worth the money to those who have purchased one? ORRRRRRRRRRRRR should I take the same money and buy three of the less fancy models? Has anyone purchased one of these and if so are you happy with it?

I would greatly appreciate any and all input on this before I decide to take the leap. Thank you in advance for any and all info.

i have had and sold a dhankuta sized model of the kothimoda, total size was 12".

i can tell you that the sheath will just blow you away. it is literally fully encased in a sheet of silver with incredible depth to it.

the handle was made of antler and the elongated butt end and habaki were made of white metal or german silver rather than silver (ag).

it was not a user obviously, but i'm sure that the khuk itself was sound.

i don't recommend you get a handle made of bone, but since it's most likely a display piece, i can't imagine any reason not to get bone. bone has been known to shatter.

Each person has to make that decision for himself, but is it worth it? Absolutely. Here's my 17" Chandan handled kothimoda. An incredible piece of art.

Thank you guys, for your input and the picture. That is a beautiful Knife and sheath. I'll be making the decision soon and will post some pics to let you see what I decided on. Thank you guys again.

Mine is like Steve's only mine has the bone handle. I tested it the same as I do every kukri I've bought and happy to say it passed with flying colors. But cracking or breaking bone is a risk everybody has to make/take for themselves as has been mentioned they do have a tendency to crack. Mine is a safe queen and only gets pulled out now and then for a drooling session being happy it is mine, mine, mine!!!!  ;) :D

Oh yeah, I have the Royal Dhankuta version as well and it is beautiful and sets on a shelf above my head. I let it tarnish shamefully but that way no one knows it is silver, that is unless it is right after its duo-yearly cleaning.:o ;)
