I recently purchased this (I believe) Kothimoras knife. I can send a file. I am giving it as a gift. The person I purchased it from said it was a Gorkha knife? He could not give us much information on it. But after looking at yours and Mr. Powells info I think it is a Kothimoras. I would like to know if you can tell me what era this was made and approximate value.

The dimensions are:

Drop 3"
Blade Length 11"
Belly Depth 1 7/8"
Handle 4 1/4"

The scabbard is leather, with ornate work. It has a peacock in golden metal with four blue stones has a golden medallion Kirtimukha. It does have a scabbard for a smaller knife but the knife is not with it.

On the blade is are cloud like carvings.

It is very similar to the top knife in the picture on http://www.tx3.net~howardw/khukuris/kothimodas.htm with the caption "Here are some samples of old kothimoras showing the variety that can be encountered."

The information you give me will help make the gift more rewarding.

Thank you.

Keith, if there's any way you can post a pix it will help our experts to determine what you have.

Looking at the second photo, it looks like there is a sheath for a small spearpoint knife instead of the chakma/karda...

Never mind... I just looked over on the FAQ and saw how it works... DUH!!

I need more caffine...

Don't show that pic to the Dust Bunnies or they might go crazy.:D It sure is nice:)

That's a nice one, for sure. Don't be surprised if you get a visit from the dust bunnies or John Powell who should be around with expert comments.

Very nice khukuri. It looks like late 19th century example, perhaps as late as WWI. Do you have the two accessory knives?

Thanks for all your help.

I did e-mail John Powell about this and he said this kothimora was probably carried by a ranking official of the royal court of Jang Bahadur in Kathmandu around 1870. This knife along with some other
items would have represented his status and would be carried as part of any official meeting or official duties.

I am also looking for the companion knives.
