Finally found that floppy disk from the SHOT Show . . . still in the camera!

I'll let David Bloch fill in the facts and figures, but here's a picture of a prototype collaboration from Kouji Hara, with his trademark rice-terrace sculpted handle, this time in cast stainless steel.

A gentleperson's knife at a working class price.

Kouji Hara is a Japanese maker who does first-class beautiful work.

Yes James, you found it. Thanks again for posting.

For the record Kouji now spells his name "Koji" so the pronunciation does not get confused.

I love it! Especially that touch of artwork on the back of the blade! When and where can I get one?

OK, here's the skinny:

The Kazan is now in the early stages of development and we hope to release this by late Fall of 2000.

Handles will be die cast stainless with natural oval inlays of black onyx, white mother of pearl, green paua shell and turquoise.

The blade will be mirror polished with a length of 3 inches. Exact blade steel has not yet been chosen, possibly 8A or ATS-34. The Kazan will feature a pocket clip and liner lock mechanism.

Target MSRP will be between $80-100.

We are just starting to take orders for the Kazan even though we still don't have the price finalized. It would be safe to bet that AG Russel will be one of the first mail order outfits to carry the Kazan.

As always thank you for your attention and interest.

The multiple inlays sound great. Should be a beautiful knife.

Now... since you don't need that 'ol prototype that James scanned the pic of anymore....ummhhh...well..err, I'll be glad to...uhhh... find it a home.

Sorry Mark, that old prototype's mine and I'm not ready to part with it yet.

I've been carrying the Kazan proto off and on for the past couple months. It really features everything you could ask for in an every day carry folder. It is compact, light, thin, stylized, artistic, a nice show off piece, a great utility shape as well a practical defense tool. Don't let the good looks fool you. That thin pointed drop-point blade will easily fillet anything it comes in contact with and the air-step ridges combined with the inlays offers a secure textured grip.

If you are currently carrying a bead blasted tactical, the Kazan offers a nice departure in a a gents style folder. One thing you never have to worry about with the Kazan is some anti-knife nit-wit asking you, " Why do you need to carry a knife like that for?

Methinks I'd better get in line to get a few! I've been coveting Koji Hara's work for some time.

David Bloch tells me that Kazan is "fire mountain" in Japanese. By coincidence, it was also the capital of the Golden Horde - the western branch of the Mongol Empire, until Tsar Ivan the Terrible captured and sacked the place. No gentlepersons' knives involved there.

LOL when the "Sheeple" ask, " Why do you need to carry a knife like that for? "

I always tell them it's to peel my daily lunch-time apple!

I am looking forward to this one, where does the line start forming?
