I got to inspect the Koval 605 special locking liner knife kit today. (sample)
They are great!

The production should be in to Koval in about a week or two!

I looked up the 605 kit on Kovals site. What is the screw kit for, do I need to have that to complete the knife?

No You dont. When building the knife sometimes the screws ( from assembley and disassemblely) get burred , or the head strips out ect. The extra screw kit takes care of that problem in case you need replacemant screws.

Hi Darrel,

Really looking forward to receiving my 605 special. Should be a fun project for me as a beginner and I'll undoubtedly learn something. I was thinking of maybe using the blade and liner as a pattern, not to copy the shape mind you, but to get the proper placement of the holes on my next knife. That's the part that has me a little daunted on my own designs. The pivot pin, end of the blade and the stop pin seem like they're the toughest part. These things are so damned precise!

Awesome. I ordered one to get a better idea of how a lot the hardware for folders is used. To help me decide what I should use on the knives I'm making with stock removal.
Glad to hear they get your approval Darrel.

I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer... but I've got the sharpest knife in the room.

How much work is necessary to finish the blade in a kit like this? I am thinking about giving it a try after customizing some of my factory pocketknives. I don't have much equipment, just a dremel tool and elbow grease...

thanks,
Chris

The frame and the blade are pretty much complete. The handle material will have to be profiled and finished. A small sander will be will be handy.
