Which handle would be better on a kabar fixed blade , a kraton or a leather handle?

Depends on what you like. I prefer leather on mine , because of the tradition and because it works.
Plus I think it looks better , but that's me :)

I'm with rebeltf on this one. While I don't have a kraton-handled KaBar, I do have many other knives with Kraton handles... and they feel like crap compared with the leather on my USMC.

The kraton will obviously be more resistant to weather conditions, but if you work in a little linseed oil every now and then, the leather will hold up just fine.

I prefer leather handles: they are tough enough, non-slip, look good, and age well.

Kraton sometimes seems to come away from tangs, absorbs moisture, and is not as tough as it could be.

What if the leather handle gets soaked? is there a way to treat it when its soaked?

I prefer leather also. IMO it feels better, looks better and is tougher than you think. Water can be a problem though, treat it before it gets soaked. People have posted many methods over the years, but it basically comes down to using a good paste wax, not oil. Some oils can soften leather, and I don't think that's good for a handle. Some people like Renaissance Wax or Min-Wax. I've used Butcher's Paste Wax before on my well-used Kabar shorty and it seemed to work well.

Not really, it will be ruined. That's the biggest advantage to the Kraton. That, and it will last much longer. Oh and it needs no maintenace or care. And is much more durable. And provides a better grip. The only thing leather has going for it is the look.

I have a Camillus from the mid to late 50's with a leather handle and it's held up well. However it sees little use. If I was to buy a hard use one to last, it would be a modern handle.
