I want to strip the coating on a CS Recon Tanto. I was wanting to go all the way to the handle. Will paint stripper harm Kraton?

I don't know.
I took great pains to avoid that happening.

Be prepared, the blade under the coating is not finished in anyway.
After stripping you'll have a lot of sanding work to do.
A lot.

Good luck :D

I recently re-ground an SRK for a friend, and stripped the blade with nitromors stripper (don't know if this is availiable in the US:confused:).
Try as I might, I still got it on the Kraton, but it had no adverse effects.
Ebbtide is spot on - the blade underneath requires a lot of work to make it look presentable. Good luck!!;)

Ian

It's an early Carbon V blade, so I don't know if that makes a difference in the finishing, but it'll will be hitting the belt grinder anyway, so no worries there. Thanks for the help, I'll try the stripper on a small portion of guard before slathering the blade.

With enough work you can make those early Carbon V blades look real good.

Possibly. It depends on the chemical makeup of the particular stripper and upon what specific grade of Kraton was used for the handle. The stronger and more effective the stripper on paint, the higher the likelyhood that it will attack the Kraton.

By attack, I mean soften. I do not think the handle would dissolve. But I would recommend keeping the stripper away from the handle.
