Good day all,

Before getting too flamed about messing up my Strider warranty with my regrind let me just say, I know I did it. I used my SMF for a bit, decided I wanted a better slice (and better looking) and sent it out to Tom for a regrind. I must say, I don't regret it one bit. Tom is a great guy to work with, he turned the knife around in a few days, and sent it back quick. Very reasonable pricing too!

Now...the knife:

So life started off as a beautiful Strider SMF CC 3V in Olive (or whatever color they call it):

Great knife, great ergos...doesn't slice as well as I'd like. I do however love 3V as an aggressive cutter so I used my blade in various tasks during fishing, camping and work. So the regrind:

I'd like to say I really love the high, hollow grind Tom put on this blade. It is a WAY BETTER slicer than before, although admittedly, I have not yet taken it out in the field. I've just tested this on some thin cardboard but I can already feel the difference in the way it cuts. Possible improvements can probably also be attributed to the lack of black coating on the cutting surfaces.

So now I have a beefy SMF, in a more carriable Conceal/Carry package, with a beautifully effective Krein regrind. This might be my perfect knife...if only I could improve the detent in the closed positions so I can keep from cutting my fingers (I carry my knives IWB).

Anyway, thanks again Tom and happy reading!

That looks GREAT and probably more useful as a daily user. TK does outstanding work, John

Boy thats a beauty i've been wanting to get an Smf and an Sng in CC with a stonewashed or satin finished blade myself. Right now i've just got a Rw-1. That looks pretty cool the way Tom reground it leaving the black coating on the blade. I like it congrats, and more functional i would think now for slicing too.:thumbup:

That's great! I didn't know he was still doing regrinds, I've got a couple of his, but need a couple more done. If you want a slicer, he's sure good at this!

Tom's regrinds are pretty awesome but his actual knives are flawless. The man knows how to make knives! Fit and finish are excellent and each one is designed to cut.

What have you done to that poor, innocent 3V SMF that I sold you?!?!

Just kidding -- it looks great. I feel exactly the same way about the 3/4 grind, which, so far, is the grind they use on all of the limited-run SMFs and SnGs with non-standard steels such as 3V, M4, S110V, etc. I love the ergos, size, and overall design -- as well as the premium steels they've used in these limited runs -- but for EDC I wish the grind was a bit higher and thinner to make it a better general-purpose cutter. That's especially true of steels like 3V and M4 that can easily handle a thinner grind without edge stability/chipping being a concern.

But with the regrind, you get the best of both worlds since you have both the premium steel and a grind that allows you to take full advantage of that steel's properties. Next time I get a limited-run 3/4 grind SMF, I'm definitely sending it to Tom for the same treatment.

Wow... That smf looks great and I bet it performs even better. Now I'm not sure what I want
done to my knife.
I'm sending in this 3/4 sng to get a re grind done.

But I'm not sure if I just want him to keep it a 3/4 grind and just thin it out kind of like yours or have him
do a full flat grind like this one.

Anyone want to persuade me either way? :)

I'm biased towards the high 3/4 hollow grind just because Strider already has a FFG version. Plus I really like the way the two tone came out!

Both grinds are great though!

Yea, the two tone finish with the swedge looks killer.
I just may need an SmF to accompany the SNG so I can have the 3/4 and full flat :)
