I have been working on this design for quite a while now. Its one of those designs I have had in my head and just couldn't get right on paper... until now!!

I got my initial inspiration for the Vagabond from the French Laguiole folding knives. I like the Vagabond because it makes for a very useful utility knife that also serves for defensive purposes WITHOUT screaming tactical knife.

It has a VERY ergonomic handle shape that works well for many different hand positions. I wear a size XL glove and I still have plenty of room on the handle. It would also work very well for people with smaller hands. The cross section is a flat oval and allows for very PRECISE control of the edge.

Here are the stats. Overall length, 8 3/4". Blade length, 3 7/8 to the middle of the sharpening choil. Blade stock is 3/16". The blade steel in this one is CPM 154. The handle material is a new material, its textured black/yellow G-10!!

Here are the pics of the VAGABOND...

I look forward to your input on this design.

THANKS!

PS sorry for the poor quality pics! I lost the use of Dan's camera when he moved into his new shop a few months back. That is a big part of why I have not been posting many pics.... This was just to exciting for me not to post. I hope to have my new Canon soon!! :D

That is very good looking.:cool:

Any chance you might make a skinny version of that? Or would that compromise the design?

Very nice Tom. Do you have any available right now? What's the best way of ordering one, maybe with stag grips? Ray

Oh, as far as any suggested input, maybe you can make the guard/hilt slightly larger. I see this as more of a EDC/field knife, but I can see the hand sliping past the guard if you're going to use that "ice-pick" grip. The thumb over the small round back of the grip doesn't look like very secure; the flatter greater surface area of something like your PSK may work better, but would change the visual flow of this design.

Thats the great thing about being a custom maker... I can modify current designs for my customers. Shouldn't be a problem. :D

I don't have any finished knives, but I do have a couple heat treated blades with more in the works. Let me know if I can help.

I like it!

I wouldn't change a thing.;)

THANKS!

I just sent you an e-mail on ordering one of these Vagabonds, thanks, Ruff Cobb

Email replied to. I would be glad to hook you up.

I agree. This knife is very attractive, has great curves and beauty lines.
I'm pretty sure I can see the Laguiole influence. And I think it has a fairly feminine look to it. Not a real macho knife. Be neat to see a thinner stock version with Martha Stewart approved colors for the handle. I'll bet they'd sell like hotcakes to guys like me who want their lady to understand the joy of a good knife. That demographic is totally overlooked and I believe is growing.
Very nice knife, I like it a lot:thumbup:

Very nice Tom, just seeing this, been traveling again!
Love the shape of both blade and handle!

Tom, I really like the design from both aesthetic and ergonomic perspectives.
Great handle and blade profiles. Is the clip sharpened? Some subtle thumb-rest filework on the spine may add.
Don't care for that particular color G-10 at all. As Ray stated and is my opinion that some nice stag scales would take this baby off the charts.
