I found an old Tredway co Lincoln axe and was wondering the time period of this axe?
It had some mushrooming that I cleaned up. I thought with the mushrooming the eye would be very oval but it is perfect! Not much pitting, the etching is deep and clear, no cracks. Pretty cool old piece it is definitely my favorite head now. Im going to put an edge on it hang it and use it for a hiking/trail axe.
Has anyone ever seen one of these with the original handle, for reference on shape/styling of the new handle?

Thanks for the link! I had no idea it was that old, that is awesome.

Does anyone have any NOS lincoln axe pictures they can post up??

With that cool of a stamp I don't think I'd use that axe. It's yours so by all means do what you like. But you don't come around those very often and in that good of shape. Plenty of good old heads that can be users you don't have to worry about.

Great head though. That's really cool

I read about them a lot last night and i noticed they are hard to come by. I probably shouldn't use it due to its collector value.
makes me think of all the safe queen firearms out there that never get used!!:grumpy:

Yeah I don't like the idea of "wall hangers" or "drawer queens" but for older things you just can't get anymore it's a little different. I don't get buying something new to be a drawer queen, but that's another subject.

I would still hang it on a old school type handle though. It would definitely make for a great wall hanger.

Typical handles supplied with axes during this time period are shown in this 1937 catalog for Warren Axe (see page 10):

and in this 1939 catalog for the Marugg company (page 14):
