Kriegar Razors?

Not a good idea, I'm not a razor expert, I don't claim to be, but there is this website you may have heard of, Straight Razor Place.com. Well they have a list of all good razors and a list of razors to avoid. Now there are alot of good razors, not every razor is on this list thats good. If you don't want to buy a really expensive used one, if they are out of your price range, or a new one, I suggest look around at antique shops for old razors in fairly good condition.

Now if you see one thats cheap the scales are in tact but they have a little rust on the blade you can get it off with low grit sandpaper.

Now more then likely your not going to get a shave ready razor at an antique shop. I got one thats really sharp, sharper then most of my knives, but I need to hit it up with a hone before I can get it shave ready.

If you would like too look over the list of bad razors to buy here it is.

Get one and try it then. But general consensus is that they won't take an edge and they sure won't hold one if you ever do get it sharp. But like many people (myself included) you seem to be a find out for yourself kind of guy. It's cheap enough that if it doesn't work out you've really lost nothing, i've wasted alot more on a lot less.

On second thought if you get it and it doesn't work out you can always grab a cheap double arrow ($12) i think, and drill out the pins on the kreiger scales then put them on the double arrow.

You will get what you pay for. A cheap imitation of a straight razor.
But don't listen to us, we don't know anything.

Don't forget, too, that for straight-razor shaving, the razor is only part of the kit. You need hones and strops and all of that stuff too meaning that a cheap razor is a small economy. And in the case of the razor in question, you can expect to need all of the sharpening gear before you can take your first shave as the razor can not be expected to be shaving-sharp out-of-the-box.

I have a strop and a kind of a hone. I use it as the final step on getting that polished edge on my knives.
