Hi guys,

I stumbled upon their site the other day and for $85 it looks like a steal (excuse the pun!) - does anyone have one of these? I was wondering how good they are for doing test cutting...

Is the Pinuti traditional? It seems that people prefer the Barong...

Thanks for your help guys (& gals!)

Cheers,

Actually they aren't half bad! We have some at work. They are solidly made and would work well in cutting. The hilt/handle is a phillipine hard wood while the guard is solid brass.

The handle is pinned on to the blade. The blade comes sharp from the factory and with a couple of swipes on a rod, it could be razor sharp. Not far from that now. They balance fairly well altho this varies from blade to blade.

All in all the Kris Cutlery blade are a good value for the money.

Pinuti vs barongs is a comparisson between apples and oranges. Barongs are weapons of the southern islands, being specific to the Sulu sultanate. Pinutis are northern island visayan type knives. As for Kris Cutleries quality, its good for the price. I have a couple kc blades and am quite happy with them, especially since they were very cheap. Kris Cutlerie's modern Filipino swords are like their japanese swords. Very functional, good for the price, but not necessarily %100 historically accurate. Though some come very close. Also balance and quality vary between blade to blade. They are all hand made so sometimes you get a really good blade and sometimes you get a decent blade. Just don't expect custom or antique quality blades. You get what you pay for.

Thanks for the info - I think I'll get one then. As always, you get what you pay for!
