I have always enjoyed the complexaty in the grinding of a kris blade but have never had the desire to try doing one. Now I,m trying to help a friend who has been crazy enough to get involved in this knife making thing.( He sure seems to be making some great progress)So finally here it comes would someone try to help us with ideas for grinding a kris blade for a balisong type knife? Any help would certainly be appreciated and even though he is looking over my shoulder on what I am doing here might allow me to gain a few points in his book.We have a 2by 72, a 1by42, and some disc sanders to work with. In advance I say many thanks and so does my friend Rich!

I don't have any idea on how to go about grinding the blade. However, I would love to see a pic if you are doing a Kris bladed bali, and I might be interested in talking about getting one if it looks decent.

Wouldnt it just be easier to grind it as a dagger and then just bend in the curves?

Just a thought...

The Kris is a forged blade, I thought they forged it shape and the bevels near finish and then sharpened it.

I'm not sure how you would do it by stock removal, maybe a very small wheel to match the curves?

Gee wiz Alan, there is always some guy who wants to do it the rasy way. I believe Rich should learn the hard way first.

How about getting a big piece of steel and grind away everything that don't look like a kris?
Seriously I would like to see a step by step on something like this.
Take care

Jim Hrisoulas makes mention of forging these blades in "The Master Bladesmith." On page 67 he talks of forging "flame" blades using a bick hardy and local heats. On page 69 he mantions using a bending fork to shape a kriss.

Hope this helps!
