The original kris blade was a sword. It was mostly used by the Muslims who had wondered away from their home country and decided to take up residence in a foreign nation. It was mostly used to scare people, so they would leave them alone.
The Moros in the Philippines today, still make and sell kris bladed swords, pretty much the same way they have been making them for hundreds of years. In Batangas, they adapted the blade for use on the Balisong knife and from there it went out to the world, making it a popular blade.
The so called "flame" blade is something I have only heard of in the last year or so. You see it on the junk fantasy knives that come out of China. They really are not even knives, because if you went to use them they would break. A kris blade has very little function as a tool only as a weapon. From what I can tell, a flame blade would not even make a very good weapon, and is just an item to put on display.
If you have any doubt as to what is and what is not a REAL knife, let us drop you out in the middle of the wilderness. We will come back in a week and pick you up. I can assure you, at the end of that week, you will never again be confused, as to what is and what is not, a real knife. Thanks, JohnR7

So He drove the man out; and at the east of the garden of Eden He stationed the cherubim, and the flaming sword which turned every direction, to guard the way to the tree of life. Genesis 3:24

There are two kinds of flame, one that makes pure, and one that consumes.
