I found some references of an 18 page pdf by a Daniel Gentile (I think he is a knifemaker or blacksmith from the EU?) that was a complete plan for a home made power hammer called 'Krusty'... but all the links were dead. Anyone have the pdf, or did Mr. Gentile remove it for a reason?

oh could some one a lot more savey copy and paste it some where useful?
I have spent hours down loading converters b useless this file is in .pdf :D

Thanks,

I have never located a good copy of those plans before.

I just signed into google documents and emailed it to myself as a pdf

It looks like the dimensions are all in Metric Milimeters

Everyone should be able to get it here.

I tried converting theme and was all bad pdf was the go had dramas up loading till I did that yes it's metric have seen a you tube vid of Appalachian power hammer probably rusty or dusty looks good and works

the funny thing about these plans is Daniel Gentile the creator was almost killed by the hammer and ultimately ended up cutting it up into small pieces, yet they keep coming up as links whenever a home built discussion comes up lol

He bust a spring or somethin' Sam?
Ive heard of springs breaking on appalachian hammers before but never heard of anyone getting hurt by it..
Lot of folks build a screen in case of that..

What I will say is that there is a good reason that a manufactured power hammer costs many thousands of dollars. If they could be built for a couple hundred and still be an OK hammer.....there would be thousands of them around. Has anyone ever seen a used Rusty or Krusty for sale?

On the same note, it seems like a simple idea to make a power driven 24" grinding wheel. That should be easy and safe,too......Right Sam???????

When tools start having many hundred foot-pounds of energy moving up and down or round and round, all sorts of normally solid and hard things come apart and fly about as deadly missiles.

I know a guy who came very close to being hurt real bad by a 25lb Little Giant if he handnt had a screen over the spring..It busted with force and it was right in front of his face when it did..Though I have talked with plenty of other blacksmiths who have had springs and toggle arms break and they did nothing but "fall down"..
You'll find a whole lot more homemade power hammers in the blacksmith circles than you do in blademsith circles it seems..At lest thats been my exp..
Homemade hammers can be dangerous no doubt..Precautions should be taken for sure..On that design about the only thing that can break and come loose is the spring. A simple cage/screen is the answer to that. Also try to use good newer springs. Not 40 year old scrapyard springs. Also "possibly" the fly wheel drive rod but thats at the back of the machine..
I know a blacksmith thats been using a appalachian hammer for about 12 years and he told me that hes had springs break twice and they just fell out of the bracket..I still feel better with the screen in front of the spring..

buy the plans it looks like hes using steel bar not sprung steel but I would use sprung all hammers I've seen have some kind of spring

a guy in I forge iron heard one bloke broke the top spring twice probably cause it cops sheer shock on the pivot I'll try some rubber mat between the spring and steel holders when I get to that
