Hi guys,

I am awaiting my RC-4 w/ sharpshooter sheath from knives ship free and have a question regarding the sizes of fire steel that will fit in it. From my research on here it appears that the LMF Army firesteel (3/8 inch) is a perfect fit. Do smaller or larger diameter firesteels fit? In the description it says that a AAA flashlight can slide in there, anyone use a flashlight with this sheath?

Thanks for any help you can provide. I can't wait to start putting the RC-4 to work!

I am curious, what are you planning on doing about the striker? Are you planning on using the blade of the knife as the striker? Because the coated portion of the blade will not as a striker... I'm just curious because I considered getting the same sheath.

I have a few of the SS sheaths and the striker I use a Ranger band(bicycle inner tube) to store striker .

let say you order a LMF army firesteel (black, red, oak handle ..whatever) it comes with Striker and cordage... use band to hold striker, just leave as an assemby & tuck striker on back side of sheath into band.

You could also keep the striker on a piece of shock cord attached to the steel. You see a lot of people put the firesteel in the loop on their sheath, then stretch the shock cord over the rod part to keep it from coming out. Striker wouldn’t flop around too bad that way. I’ve always looked at it as a secondary means for starting fire. Keep the striker in your pocket attached to your other fire steel. :D

I'm not too sure what I will do for a striker. I know the coating on the blade prohibits it from being a striker (except the blade). I was thinking of tucking it in somewhere, the ranger bands seem like a good idea. Maybe a piece of hacksaw could be taped inside where the blade goes?

to use it with a AAA flashlight, you have to work to stretch out the leather to accommodate them.

Any smaller firesteel will fit in. It just might fall out! :)

Thanks Derrick,

I hoped you would chime in.

You wouldn't happen to know what the average shipping time to your customers in Canada would be?

I would love to see an RC-4 in a KSF Sharpshooter sheath... which model/size does it need to be? and is it snug enough?

Pics would be awesome... :)

Thanks!

Bah! nevermind, I answered my own question... for a second I thought you were talking about the bushcraft or forest sheath models but I just realized the leather sheath for the RC-4 is made by Sharpshooter.... my bad. :o

shipping to Canada is typically less than 2 weeks, but you never actually know. Customs can always be a wild card.

Thanks!

Look at post #4 Orange handle is a 3 in a ksf SS sheath the gray/black is a 4 in a ksf ss Sheath.
both fit snug and I really enjoy them...If you prefer leather ,it is one of the best sheathing options available w/o a wait or lead time.

My RC-4 Arrived yesterday (in case any Canadians were curious it took 12 days from when it was ordered to when it delivered to BC). My Cheap coghlan's Fire steel (smaller then 3/8) fits decently inside the loop. I'll pick up a Light my Fire Army when I find one around here. Going camping this weekend, can't wait to put er' to use!
