Kubotan Laws in Michigan?

I can't find anything that gives solid information on whether you can carry a kubotan in MI for self-defense. Anyone have any real knowledge about this?

From what I’ve looked up in the law regarding knuckles and batons I’d be hesitant to carry one since any over zealous DA could charge you with either of you struck somebody with it.
It’s a chicken “@&$ answer but I wouldn’t want to spend my life savings trying to convince a jury that I somehow had another use for a “ small stick “ that has only one listed use. Instead, I’d carry a nice heavy duty pen, like a Hinderer, which is exactly the same as his kubatons except one end can write.
I have both the large and small versions. They’re not only good pens, but they’re very functional for what you’re looking for and if you ended up in court I think it’d be easy to explain how as a pen collector you grabbed what you had in your pocket to persuad some dirtbag to stop bothering you.

It’s what I fall back on when the law makes me leave my gun and knife in the truck. I’m no expert with it, not even a novice, but it has a nice pointy end and I can take it anywhere in Michigan.

I know of a guy up north who was arrested for wearing a flint knapped arrow head necklace, Officer said it was a double edged blade.
The Officers I know wouldn’t harass a guy like that but everyone has a bad day and I’m not giving any excuses to help somebody make their bad day my bad day.

Section 750.224
(1) A person shall not manufacture, sell, offer for sale, or possess any of the following:
(d) A blackjack, slungshot, billy, metallic knuckles, sand club, sand bag, or bludgeon.
(2) A person who violates subsection (1) is guilty of a felony, punishable by imprisonment for not more than 5 years, or a fine of not more than $2,500.00, or both.

Not a lawyer or LEO, but for whatever it's worth that doesn't sound kubotan-friendly to me.

Section 750.226.
(1) A person shall not, with intent to use the same unlawfully against the person of another, go armed with a pistol or other firearm, or a pneumatic gun, dagger, dirk, razor, stiletto, or knife having a blade over 3 inches in length, or any other dangerous or deadly weapon or instrument.
(2) A person who violates this section is guilty of a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than 5 years or a fine of not more than $2,500.00.

"Any other" makes it a judgement call, and who needs a felony arrest?

a nice pocket sized flashlight works just as well. Mag light, Stream light, Sure Fire, etc. Plus you have a light.....
