Just wondering if anybody makes their own or carries a kubotan.

I started making one tonight; it's a 6" x 3/4" oak dowel with 2.5" x 1/4" lag bolts drilled and screwed into the ends.

all the shaping so far is done on my bench grinder but I will sand it and maybe stain before clear coating.

I may also drill a hole for a paracord neck lanyard.

Well, since nobody else has made or carries a stick, I'll post a couple pics of the finished product...

I finished it up with the belt sander and sprayed some clear on it tonight.

I still may drill a couple holes near the middle for a piece of shoelace to make a loop to go around the two middle fingers.

Very nice work. I like impact weapons. They can ward off an immediate attack without escalating it the way drawing blood might.

I have to say, this sounds funny. The thread has only been up for a couple of days, one of which we were down for transfer to the new server. Just because you didn't get a responce, doesn't mean no one is interested, only that no one who is really interested got around to it.

This sort of thing usually gets more play in the Practical Tactical forum.

thanks man it looks great will give me something to mess around (try to make) with this 6 day weeked besides drinking. :D:D

Now that I look at that post closer, I had to laugh cause that sentence doesn't even really make sense, not sure why I put it that way... Oh well.

I like the rustic look of wood more than some of the more modern styles. It probably wouldn't pass a metal detector but I guess a person could just make one out of the oak dowel alone if metal detection was an issue.

With some of the crap that goes on in the city, I'd rather have an oak stick than nothing, I guess. :)

tgiannes; have fun drinking, err, making stuff on those 6 days off.

Nice work - looks like you had fun making it. I often carry a CS Sharkie - it's legal and although it has very limited use, it's better than nothing - plus it's size means I can still use it as a pen without taking off my winter gloves

Ive got about 10 including pens flashlights metal & plastic kubotans.
I think there ideal as were i live if i get caught with any blade that locks or fixed can get 4 years so the sticks are perfect for me.
I also boxed since i was a kid and it saves your knuckles from busting up.
One thing i would say is dont expect someone to hit the deck if you crack there skull with it in a hammer blow swing like a random shot coming over and down on the head.
I found that out even though i smashed a big bit of bone of his skull that when i think of it in my mind i can still see fly past the corner of my eye.He still kept coming strong and the fight was not effected by that blow even though it was a hard shot i was expecting a KO or at least a TKO.
The best strikes ive found are hammer down on the face teeth are perfect or to the side of the face it doesnt KO the person but will cause them enough pain to give up the fight a TKO if you will.

Today no stick made no material, but did make up a bunch of kydex and kydex for my hinder kubaton

I like the ASP Street Defender. Not handmade and not nearly as attractive as your creation, but it contains a replaceable OC spray cylinder.

If I carry a kubotan I could get in big trouble as it's classed as an offensive weapon. However, if I carry a flashlight of similar size I'm good to go.
Also, a flashlight might actually come in handy for its intended purpose.

I've been thinking about picking up a Hinderer Kubaton, these projects are great, but I personally still prefer synthetic materials to naturals these days, though I can feel the pull towards more natural, nice looking materials. If I could get my hands on some Carbon Fiber tubing and use it around a titanium tube or just cover a titanium tube with CF that would be cool.

There's also a really nice looking and functional pen made by one of the knife mfr's that also doubles as a kubotan.
