I've never gone on a rant but have mentioned the less than stellar f&f issues I've had with ordering BM knives online.

While visiting my brother in Tyler, for a day at the gun range, he took me to a new gun store which just so happened to carry BMs.

Standing before me was a display case just filled with BM beauties. I heard angels singing as I approached the stand-up plexiglass treasure chest which radiated with a heavenly light. "HALLELUJAH!" they sang as I moved closer.

Slightly embarrassed, I wiped the tear from my eye and zipped up my coat to hide my woody. I motioned for my brother to come and see the BM bounty and showed him all the latest offerings.

He instantly fell in love with the Mini Freak and was also smitten with the Mini CR. He ask one of the employees to take out multiples of each so we could try to find a decent one.

They were all the same. Perfectly centered, symmetrical grinds and the best edges I'd ever seen. Each one a carbon copy of the others. The actions were exactly the same on all. A little tight with no hint of scratchy resistance. No need to adjust the pivot as these will smooth out beautifully. Stellar fit and finish.

Impressed would be an understatement.
Kudos Benchmade, kudos.

Even prior to this years models I've never experienced any lemons with the models I've received over the years. Maybe my standards are lower.

Very nice to hear. I plan on picking up my first Benchmade (I know, I know ) and I’m sure at this point it will be a CR. Thanks for sharing your experiences

Probably just luck of the online draw. That's why I've never bitched about it much.
Now I have a store to go to.:D

But did any of them have a decent edge?

He answered your question.

From my post:

"They were all the same. Perfectly centered, symmetrical grinds and the best edges I'd ever seen. Each one a carbon copy of the others. The actions were exactly the same on all. I should have said, best factory edges I had ever seen.

Albeit a small sample size, 6 knives, the consistency was outstanding.

That's awesome! The past few I've bought new have all been really good. Sounds like they've heard the complaints and are being a little more meticulous.

I handled a bugout at a local store, centering was good, action was a little stiff but it would break in perfect. Edge seemed pretty good. I’ve been one to bash the fit and finish in the past, but they seem to have tightened it up.

It had been a few years since I'd bought any new Benchmades, but in the past 2 months, I've acquired two new ones from online--the Bugout, and what I'm assuming is the very last run of the large Ritter Grip ever to be sold from Knifeworks. The Bugout was as perfect as I could ask for, but the Ritter was just as my small Ritter being very off center. Free falling blade with no play though which is great. The thing I've noticed most of all with these newer Benchmades is the cutting edges are both seemingly around 15 dps compared to my old ones that seemed all greater than 20 dps from the factory.

Recently purchased a BM 585 at Ace Hardware. Had a $$ off coupon so that helped. The fit and finish was spot on, blade centered, etc. Absolutely no gripes about this knife. Mfg date was 6/17. Can't say I have ever had a bad one yet. Even like the Valox grips. I did de assist this one like it that way much better.

Out of my last ten or so Benchmade only one came a bit off center it did bother me since it was the one I wanted the most 535 still in the box contemplating on sending it back . I hate paying for shipping when I don't think it's my fault. But overall they have been great .

I got a custom shop 556 in January and it came out perfect. Better then i would even care about. Centered, even blade/edge grind, etc. But i never had much problems with BM in my limited experience. 5 knives, and one had and uneven edge and the tip wasn't sharpened on one side (my first one about 10yrs ago).

Want to give them some praise for their CS and warranty. Back in late December I shipped them my 940 and 535 for warranty work (both knives needed the Omega springs replaced); this was my first time using a knife manufacturer's warranty and my first time shipping something to Benchmade for some work. Once I received an RMA number/invoice for both my knives, the turn around time was 5 weeks to get them back to me in Canada. About 4 weeks in, I sent them an email regarding the status of my knives and I got a prompt response the next day. I just got home with them today and after looking over both the invoices, they not only fixed (replaced) the omega springs on both knives, they also replaced all the hardware on both knives as well!

I'm not sure if that's standard procedure for them, but it was a nice touch, as were the black Benchmade boxes they arrived at the post office in (inside of another box for shipping). If I ever need to take advantage of another knife manufacturer's warranty, this will be the gold standard I compare them to. Nicely done Benchmade Benchmade !

Edit: If it wasn't obvious, all of this was done for free on their dime!
