Kudos to Buck Knives and the local Feed and Seed store. For years I have wondered why knife display cases were no longer seen in the hardware, farm and feed and seed stores like the days when I grew up. How is a kid to grow up without drooling over the knives? Not everyone wants to drive two towns over to WW or some big chain store. Well I stopped to pay my monthly fuel and supply bill and while standing in line with my two dogs, I looked up and was surprised to see a new 6 foot tall BUCK Knife Display. WOW and in my pocket is a new BUCK USA 345. This is something I would never order on line but took great pride in buying it from a local store and hope to buy one of the fixed blades next month. It’s not the 100 series but black handle. Thanks BUCK, it felt good.

I agree with you and also remember the days long ago when you would go to the local small local store and look at the knives in the display and drool over them. It would be nice to see more of the good knives such as Buck in the local smaller stores.

I agree with you gents; I'm much more likely to buy another knife when I can see it and put my hands on it than I am to mail order it. OH
Ps I'm at Atlantic Beach NC; there is one hardware store and two gunshops across the bridge in Morehead City that stock a nice selection of Buck Knives.

My wife and I used to own a retail gift shop in a small rural upstate N.Y. town. I slowly added guy stuff. Woolrich Clothes, Wigwam Socks, Lodge Cast, and Buck Knives.

I had an upright spinning display case. We did pretty well with them. Sadly many of my customers were older guys replacing pocket knives they had lost in airport confiscations. But we got a lot of the dad buying the son, or daughter their first hunting knife too. Pretty cool. I had people come in and put down $10.00 a week at Christmas time.

When we sold the place. I gave a few to folks who had been coming in and drooling over them, but couldn't afford them. I thought one guy was going to cry. I have rarely seen a grown man so exicted. It was like he got the pony he always wanted. I was glad I was able to be a part of that. Sometimes life's little surprises are the best ones.

In retrospect, I should have purchased or kept more Buck Knives for myself. But water under the bridge. I did keep an Ergo Hunter (which I have yet to use) when we sold the place. I wish I had built myself a collection of brass/wood to go with my trusty 102.

That is a great story LostViking, kudos to you.

I bought my 110 at a Farm and Fleet, not the small family-owned feed store, more of a mega chain family-owned feed store. I was shocked to find the best price there, versus Wallys, big-box sporting goods stores and internet sellers.

We've got a strange odds and ends store near us who just added a Buck showcase, but I wondered if their stuff is legit or fake. All their other items are pretty eclectic - socks, cookware, no name tools.

Great story LostViking. That was nice to give some knives to folks who could not otherwise afford them. That was very kind.

I'd much rather pay a bit more to look at the knife I'm buying before hand. I'm sure I would have loved your store. If you don't patronize the small business, all we will be left with are the big box stores.

By the way, I haven't seen a legitimate Buck knife display in any small businesses I frequent. Too bad.

Makes me wonder if Buck distribution is regional in nature (through regional gun and knife distributors perhaps?) None have huge inventories, but I can think of at least a dozen local shops (hardware stores, gunshops, and fishing shops) all over eastern NC that stock Buck Knives. OH

I just called Buck Knives direct. They gave me the name of a regional rep. His name was something like Rock. He repped Buck Knives and several other lines. I think he had Arcteryx packs and some other stuff.

You have to prove you are a legit business, and have a minimum opening order. I think my first order was $1,500.00 After that it was pretty simple. Easier than some companies that require a $15,000.00 minimum order. That was the only time I ever saw the guy.

skyhorse I would like to shop that display. It has boxes where you can check out the knives. My new Buck was in plastic pack, but I like it.
Thanks all for reply.
Bob

It seems every year Buck displays are getting smaller everywhere. I was at a big box store sportsman store and the other knife brands had a much larger display than Buck. Anyone else noticing the same trend?
