It usually takes me about a month to get a new one loosened up through normal use. But I also fidget with them a lot so that may speed up the process.
One thing I would not recommend is pulling the spring any higher than necessary to unlock the notch. I heard about a method to loosen the tension on the lock in which you pull the spring “about twice as far as it would normally take to release the blade.” I attempted this and believe it is the reason the spring on a month old knife cracked.
