Need the 10" wheel for the kmg, so forged this one out today, will finish over the next couple days. Steel is Burton's 5160, this is my very first kuhkri what do you guys think?

Comments and critique welcome. I know it is not your traditional style kuhkri, i thought i could spice it up a bit while still keeping the great shape.

Cool looks good. Interesting shape on it. So the steel forged good huh? I am in the process of trying to get a forge together and hope to try some out soon. I have only been doing some stock removal with it.

Oh yeah Burton it forges really nice, moves really good under the hammer. What kind of forge are you looking to get?

I like it alot. I was wondering when some one was going to forge a Kukri out of that 5160.

Looks great. Keep us posted with progress pics.

I am going to put my own together. I found a place here locally that sells inswool and refactory cement. I have an old fire extinguisher that I cut the end off and was going to use that but it is 6" and I am wondering now if I should make a 8". I will get some pics posted up of it soon.

Thanks guys:). Bigfattyt, i sure will i gotta finish this one up right away to raise funds for the 10" wheel hehe. Joe, these things are HARD to forge! by far the hardest shape i have made so far. Burton, don't forget to calculate the refractory thickness in the final inside diameter of the forge.

You should have asked me to show you my real kukri so you'd get a better idea of the shape !

Good work, Sam. Looks like a good chopper but the shape is more of a kukri inspired bowie. Nothing wrong with giving it your own style though, keep it up...

PS If I'm not mistaken the little notches on the blade represent masculinity? Might want to make them a little bit bigger next time. :D

I was going for a bit non traditional kuhkri, plus, and even though everyone hates them, I like clip points hehe:). Thanks Jose, I had heard somewhere they meant/represented Kali, the goddess of life and death(hindu?), which would be kind of fitting for a knife hehe. You are right though it is a bit like a kuhkri inspiried bowie, wasn't going for that but it kinda looks that way.

Might be, I'm going from memory but it's been a while. Not sure if the Gurkas are Hindu though so we may both be wrong. :)
