ok, so looking around on kuhkuri palace the other day just browsing when i cam across this knife (http://khukuripalace.com/?option=pr...l&cid=3939353736&pid=393933343736&pgp=1&pgc=1) i like the looks of it (and the price) as ive been looking for a knife of about that size. the thing is that on the site they say they are hand made/forged. so when i started googling it up in general i cam across this (http://www.khukrimuseum.com/catalog/product.php?id=323130fc98). now they look identical to me. the two holes in the belt loop of the sheath, the exact same shape of the brass on the sheath, etc. now what i am asking is wether or not these are a mass produced thing and they are selling with their other hand made knives and not saying its mass produced, or are they one and the same company under different websites or what. because i like them, but if they arent a hand made item (which is alot of the appeal to be honest) t

ok, yes i did post the same thing in the general but i wasnt quite sure where it should go, i figured since its about wether they really are handmade or not i thought id post it here also.

The one in the first link's pic looks real enough to me. Looks very Scandinavian too.

The site looks good, i.e.legitimate. The description of the "small towns in eastern part of Nepal..." in their 'about us' is exactly as described to me by the people who gave me the kuk described below. IMO, the knife's as close to "authentic" as you're going to find without visiting a village there. I'd buy it.

The ones I saw on a page in the second link look mass produced and a bit Westernized for my taste.

I have a khukuri from Nepal, hand forged in the '60's in some obscure village. You can tell it isn't machine or factory produced by the waviness and uneveness of the whole blade when critically examined under the right fluorescent or other harsh light.

I know there have been some past posts regarding a rivalry between two big Nepali kukri sites. Supposedly one is the good witch and one is the bad witch. See what some of the knowledgeable people say here....

EDIT: btw, if you are thinking this is the small 'karda' knife usually found accompanying a khukuri in the sheath, it isn't.

They may the same company, as the "khukuri houses" seem to have multiple websites/outlets. But, they also copy each other (some more so than others) including plagiarizing another company and not bothering to even change the name from one company to another. It looks like the second link is to KHHI, which seems to be garnering some good reviews. One thing to always remember is the shipping will add greatly to these knives coming direct from Nepal. My best advice is to do your homework and carefully research the company before you buy. They're likely both handmade, as that's how it's done in Nepal, but quality can be all over the board, and customer service varies widely.

I'll add, to my eye it's a Western design, though I could be wrong. The price you pay after shipping may be enough to get a used Bark River of similar size off the Exchange (maybe). I love khukuri, but a Western design from Nepal doesn't have the same appeal to me as a good khuk. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

i know its not the small blade that often accompanies the kuhkuri. its approx 5" blade and a 5" handle. shipping for it to australia is only $30. im going to get a kuhkuri (or two) from there anyway. a display (nice and polished) and a user probably as a graduation present to myself. i just wasnt sure due to two different sites having the practically identical handmade item. i may get it from KHHI since its only $10 more expensive and they do have more of a reputation than kuhkuri palace.
