that its indian army issue pre 1947 now the karda and chakmak i belive are from a mk3 theres a good inch or more been cut of their handles now ive also been told that the frog aint right either now i belive the marks on the blade are fakes probably trying to increase its value?now what id like to know is what type of chakmak and karda would have been right for this kuk and what type of frog would be right as well i presume it would be a military type frog
heres the pics
thanks guys mick

Hey mick,

I think sirupate is mostly steering you right. It looks to be an WWII model Indian army issue khukuri. However the markings look fake to me and the scabbard, frog, chakmak and karda all look like they were borrowed from some other khukuri. I believe that the khukuri probably is of way more recent manufacture than 1944. possibly up to 1980's manufacture. It is hard to tell at the best of times, with all the fakes out there and the fact that you've cleaned it. The correct scabbard would probably be a brown leather with brass chape with the rounded end. the correct frog would be military style with the adjustable buckles and the proper chakmak and karda wold look similar to the ones that come with H.I. khukuri.

Mick how thick are the blades on the karda and chakmak? The reason I'm asking is that if they are very thin, about 1 to 1-1/2 mm I'd say they would have a real good chance of coming off of one of, "A.C.'s Real Army Issue" kukris. The shape of the top one fits very well with the ones I'm speaking of as do their handle lengths.;)

thanks for the reply guys youve sorted a lot of puzzels for me:thumbup:
karda hi
when ive said i cleaned it all i did was clean the crud out the lettering
the blades in such good condition allmost spotless exsept for a couple of old black rust spots treated entire metal work with renaisence wax brushed the crud off the handle with an old toothbrush then a couple of coats of linseed oil to bring the handle up a bit.

ps karda
didnt know about the scabard being fake when you say brown i presume you mean the undyed natural tan colour seen on military scabards
of the period.

yvsa hi
ive tried measuring the thickness as you asked and it looks about 1mm thick of tough springy steel when i say tough ive tried to sharpen the karda
and gave up its to much like hard work and both handles have been cut down as you can still see the saw marks on the handle ends.
all the best mick
